Is the ISU Defensive front better this year?

It looks like they are a little more physical, but still are in 100th place for sacks with 1 in two games. Is this a factor of the UNI QB being very mobile and the Iowa OL being good at protecting? So far the line play against the run has been encouraging, but against the pass it looks like they are not getting though to make plays.

Re: Is the ISU Defensive front better this year?

Would I like more sacks? Yes, but ISU is doing ok with rush defense so far.
ISU is allowing something like 3.5 YPC to running backs. Coker only ended up with 4 ypc. I'd say the front 4 is light years ahead of this stage last year.

LY, ISU gave up something crazy like 525 yards rushing to Iowa and KSU combined in those 2 weeks.

It appears so far the defensive backfield is better than last year. If that trend holds true, maybe Burnham can continue to sell out to stop the run and rely on LJ and Reeves at times to lock some WRs down.

Defensive backs masking some deficiencies at DL? Is that even possible??? I really really like what the Clones have going on defense this year. They have made both UNI and Iowa work hard for their points.

Especially since ISU faced the 2 greatest QBs ever for both programs!

Were deeper numbers wise with very little drop off in ability. Were much more competitive than last year. .

imo, we had very good pressure in the first 2 games just 1 sack to prove it..... I think this will improve vastly as the season goes on.

Calling Lattimore, Scott, Neal and Nelson, time to step up. I also see Irving getting more snaps this week and hopefully adding a spark here....

I'm liking what I'm reading. He should be a very good addition to the DL.

Re: Is the ISU Defensive front better this year?

The announcers noted during the Iowa game that the DL was doing a good job of occupying the offensive lineman so that they weren't getting to the 2nd level to block our LB's. I'd say they are doing good, and they were getting pressure at times. Still would like to see more, but they are definitely better than last year.

Re: Is the ISU Defensive front better this year?

Rony Nelson is physically impressive. There were a couple times on obvious passing downs that I had to take a second look. He came off the line as fast as I've seen an ISU DE since Berryman. I think he will get a few more before the season is over.

I don't bring my own opinions, just attack others.
