No help from regents on re-alignment

2nd hand from a hawk co-irker, the board's recent changes will leave it uninclined to get involved in the re-alignment stuff. Additionally, certain board members are enjoying ISU's situation and may try to slow down future projects until future TV revenue is more certain. Sucks that media and powers that be would prefer ISU to twist in the wind.

Not sure why they would meddle when they have explicitly given President Geoffroy the ability to handle the situation himself. Frankly, them staying out of it is a good thing.

If President Geoffroy or Pollard need help on the issue, or some form of approval, they will contact the BoR.

Re: No help from regents on re-alignment

I've got to believe that the BoR has more on stake than hoping that our football team isn't a BCS team anymore. I'm sure they're fairly dependent on our status and wouldn't hold athletic rivalries over us in a do or die situation. I mean, I want the Hawks to suck, but I want them to suck on their own, not from the result of the crumbling of their educational institution.

If that's the case, those BOR members are mentally ********.

A BOR member doing his/her job would want to insure that their state institutions are funded to the max from outside sources in order to ease taxapayer burden.

ISU being in a BCS conference with top-shelf TV revenues helps to insure that. And any mentally capable BOR member should know that a successful athletic program helps fuel academic donations which further eases taxpayer burden.

Any BOR member or elected official who insinuates such anti-ISU behavior/action/words deserves to be bombarded with maximum criticism and personal insults. They would be doing all IA taxpayers an injustice, including Iowa fans/boosters.

Re: No help from regents on re-alignment

I have a strange feeling this isn't true...

    1. If Geoffrey has power to act in the University's interest what would we need the BOR's help for?

    2. How would the BOR benefit from if ISU were to fall from a BCS conference?

Screams typical hok bs to me.

Do you you trust a Hawk for credible information. This sounds more like a Hawkeye wish to me.

My two concerns from the conversation are:

    1. Projects getting slowed down because of reluctance to back the bonds used to finance construction. With future TV revenues in doubt, the board could delay projects. This may very well be prudent but regents with a hawk lean probably vote differently on this than pro-ISU regents.
    2. If ISU ends up being left out, it will likely cause the state $$ and opportunities for Iowa kids. How my co-irker and his regent contacts (and they are legit contacts) find that amusing is troubling.

    Fixed it for you.

Board of Regents State of Iowa

Robert Downer resides in IC. Only two appear to have graduated from the UofI. Three may have graduated from ISU, one from Drake, one from UNI, and one from Catholic University.

As Jamie suggested this is one of those posts you only read for it's fun and entertainment qualities, NOT facts.

Well, the new football facility has broken ground and the bonds are sold so it will go forward. As has the new facility by towers. So, this is BS. Make sure to tell the hawk you heard it from he's an idiot.
