    Couple Iowa thoughts

Seeing as how I have ******* loudly about wide receiver productivity in the past, let me just start by issuing an unreserved "atta - boy" to the ISU receivers. Great performance all the way around. Good catches, good blocking - without Darius Reynold's block on the last play of the game, it would not have been the last play of the game. I was very impressed with WR blocking vs the Hawks. They caught the ball well over the middle, which takes guts and determination. I loved them on Sat.

I wouldn't trade Van der Kamp for anyone.

The O-line was really very good. Steele had time to read a couple chapters on several occasions. The execution on the receiver middle screens was a thing of beauty. Linemen way downfield racking up their second blocks on a play was not uncommon. The D line got a nice consistent push upfield. They did a great job breaking the pocket down from the inside - out. I like the looks of Dutch and Jake working together.

Best blocking on kick returns I have seen in some time. And, it was consistently good all day.

    The secondary played very well.

Our LB's are very good, but I gotta mention that it looked to me like they got hit a lot on Saturday. Their tackle totals were low considering Coker had 35 carries.

TO's and missed FG's indicated needs for improvement. What are we, 2-0 with 6 TO's?

Saving the best for last, we have found ourselves a QB. This guy has the arm, legs, brains and name to be an exciting quarterback for the Cyclones. I nominate Coach Rhoads for the "best poker face while telling a whopper" award for his repeated statements about the close competition at QB up until the end of fall workouts. Jantz is an exceptional talent. This guy does amazing things - routinely. Behind that superb pass-blocking, he is going to do more amazing things. We've got to keep this guy healthy. Our tough schedule notwithstanding, betting the over on season wins at 3.5 looks awfully good at this point.

I'm still looking forward to basketball season, but I'm not in a hurry for it to get here.

7 turnovers in 2 games - yet your point is still valid.

For the record, I believe it was Darks that made that block.

As far as the QB battle, I think a lot of what makes Jantz so much better probably doesn't show up in practice as well as it does in games. He seems to have "it".

Darks had the block on Prater on the last play of the game.

While on live TV, Ford used a vulgar term to describe a private part of the female anatomy, adding that he was “happily married” and “got more than enough to eat at home.”

    This is true.

Money had a great block on the first play of OT, though, Shontrelle's 12 yd gain with the horsecollar at the end.

    Re: Couple Iowa thoughts

Post Iowa game coaches show was interesting. CPR is still being very sly on a few high star recruit commits. An some guy who called himself "Hawkeye P" from Arkansas made an *** out of himself. Gotta love Diamond Dave and Tommy. Some how I got the show on 1600 am in Cedar Rapids... that was new or more likely a mistake. And it was Darks who smashed Prater on the last play. A thing of beauty!!

Yeah, not trying to bag on you, but Rivals commit # matches what CPR said exactly (10), so apparently he isn't including Watson in his number as well, just like Rivals (some other poster was absolutely freaking out about how Rivals didn't have him on their commit list a couple weeks back). Apparently some of these "commits" are soft enough that the coaches won't go public with them either.

Though I really hope you are right and the coaches and everyone else are hiding a few high star commits!

You're right. I thought Darks and typed Reynolds. Thanks.

I'm just gonna say -- first 3 quarters of UNI.
And, as already mentioned, practice =/= game.

Reynolds blocking, Germans bombing, forget he was rolling.

If I were him I'd quote the generally recognized and published number as well. Keeps the dogs off the scent.

I heard all the talk about Prater being a NFL prospect, but he was getting beat all day, did he have a bad game or is he overrated?

I guess I didn't think he got beat all day. Also, keep in mind a poor defensive line can make a secondary look bad. We've had that happen plenty at ISU.

The Iowa defensive line did little to help their secondary. Plus, when the defensive line did get pressure, Jantz simple whipped 'em.
