    Re: SJ4H

*IF* Steele can continue to put up the same numbers every week that he did against Iowa and the team goes 10-2 or 11-1, sure. Do I see that happening? No. I'd love for him/them to prove me wrong though.

If he continues to improve, then he'll be in a position to be a long shot, dark horse candidate NEXT year.

    FIFY.

It's pretty rare for a player who isn't at a high profile school to go from nowhere to winning it. For those kids they have to generally be in the conversation at the beginning of the year. It's kind of like finishing the season ranked #1. If you didn't start the season in the polls you have next to no chance. Any other team that was ranked at the beginning of the season who ends up with a similar record will finish ahead of you - sometimes even if they have a worse record.

"There are five real good recruits in the state. We got three of them. One couldn’t get into school, and the other went to (the University of) Iowa...which is about the same thing." - Coach Johnny Orr

True. I always forget that college football is a popularity contest and not necessarily about the best teams/players.

Way too soon. Plus, he didn't have any kind of hype coming into the season. Rarely does the Heisman go to someone that we've never heard of before this year. It just doesn't work that way anymore, it's a popularity contest.

Good lord, unless you are talking about a youth agricultural organization, you are really jumping the gun on any of that

In 1984, I was hospitalized for approaching perfection.
