    UConn

Just got around to checking out the UConn result from today. They lost to Vandy 24-21. UConn had less than 200 yards total offense and four turnovers (3 INTs) while failing to score an offensive TD. Defense did have seven sacks of Vandy.

Big win today, but it loses a bit of its shine if we don't take care of business on Friday. Looks like we have a great shot at 3-0. I'm sure the coaching staff will do a great job of keeping the team focused over this short week. There will be plenty of time to celebrate both UI and UConn wins over the bye week!.

    Go State!

Been waiting for this thread all night. The Iowa win was huge, but there cannot be a hangover for this next game. 3-0 would be huge, and is very within reach!

I'm going to bump this just because I think we should be talking about it. I hope CPR got home last night, had a celebratory beer, and went straight into tape on UConn.

    Re: UConn

No, you can pretty much write off next week. This week was our Super Bowl. It is the only game we care about all season. We, the handful of people truly in the Cyclone Nation, have already declared this season a success and are going back to the farm to our sister-wives. We realize we are not worthy to carry the jock straps of our Big Brothers to the East so will resume our rightful place as bottom dwellers. Or not....

    Re: UConn

I look at the UCONN-Vandy game in the same way I look at the ISU-UNI game. The Cyclones improved immensely in all areas (except FGs, TOs & Penalties) from week 1 to 2 & we got a win over a better opponent. While I have a lot of optimism for the outcome going in favor of our Cyclones, I'm expecting to see a different UCONN team on Friday & we need to be improve in the areas I listed above in order to come out with a win!
    -GO CLONES!!

Utah Utes, Illinois Illini. The University of Pennsylvania thought about following this pattern by calling themselves the Pennsylvania Pencils. However, they were afraid their students would start chanting "We're No. 2"

    Re: UConn

UConn had two short field goals, a blocked punt returned for a TD, a returned fumble, and a 2 point conversion. Winning the turnover battle is important in any game, but seeing how we have had so many turnovers and UConn has taken advantage of turnover opportunities already this year, I'll venture to say that turnovers are the key for our offense this week. If we take care of the ball, we should have the horses to outscore the Huskies handily.

Their RB/OL is between above average and outstanding, since freshman Lyle McCombs rushed for 141 yards and 4 TD's against Fordham, then 118 yards against Vanderbilt. On the other hand, their QB's combined for 11/29 for 104 yards and 3 interceptions against Vandy. On defense, we have to do better on first down than we did against Iowa. If we can pull them off schedule and force them to throw on 3rd and 5+, we stand a good chance of stopping them, especially considering how well the secondary has played in the last two games. We should be able to have Jake Knott and A.J. Klein focus on their backfield most of the time this week, which will certainly help make UConn inefficient on 1st down.

UConn's offense is very one dimensional, but it is very good in that one dimension, even with a freshman running back. While that should be enough for them to win a few more games this year, Iowa State easily has all of the tools to win this matchup. My concerns rest in the uncharacteristic -5 turnover margin we've posted to this point, the fact that this is the first road game of the year (with a time zone difference, no less), and general Cyclone Inferiority Complex. My heart says total blowout, but my mind says 27-13.

    Re: UConn

i am very worried about a mccarney style egg at uconn. hope that doesn't happen. cpr hasn't done it that often but colorado comes to mind a season ago.

we must win every even matched game to go to a bowl this year. uconn is a must win.

Time to bring our A game to UCONN. No hangover guys, we have your back. Like everyone has said, you can celebrate during the bye.

    Re: UConn

I will be shocked if we don't play sluggishly against UConn. I'm hoping we have enough gas in the tank to still pull it out!

Then a well deserved bye week.

in the end they did lose to vandy, so there's that working for us. statistically at least, they were outplayed.

I noticed that Sagarin has us as dogs by 2.5 against UConn. Not sure that I agree though.

    kinda, not really
First downs: UConn 14, Vandy 10
Total Yards: UConn 193, Vandy 259
    Passing: UConn 104, Vandy 141
    Rushing: UConn 89, Vandy 118
    Penalties: UConn 5-40, Vandy 11-81
    3rd Down Conversions: UConn 3-15, Vandy 2-16
    4th Down Conversions: UConn 0-1, Vandy 0-0
    Turnovers: UConn 4, Vandy 3
    Possession: UConn 31:36, Vandy 28:24

I wouldn't necessarily say that UConn lost based on this.
