    Tom Herman

Those of us who have claimed that this guy has the credentials, that all he needs at Iowa State are the players to correctly execute his offensive scheming, say to you, our Cyclone brethren who have been critical: Can we give the coach a break?

I'm not saying Herman is above reproach -- he's not; nor is any coach anywhere. But, can most of we Cyclone fans agree, in the wake of today's performance, Herman is a talented coach who has something important to offer the Cyclone football program?

    Hope so.

    Re: Tom Herman

I think he called a pretty good game today. You are right, it is all about having the coach's players in the game... but those players need to be playmakers, and we found one in Jantz!!

ummmmmm..... Does anyone really think that that performance was due to great play calling?? From what I saw Steele had to scramble and wait around to find receivers coming open. Also, SJ was running like a beast. I can not give much credit to the OC today. My credit goes to Steele and SJ.

    Re: Tom Herman

The play calling was not very good, Steele Jantz and the receivers made plays out of nothing all game.

So, if the players have great games, the OC is not to get credit? 473 yards total offense, incredible third down and fourth down performance. Hmmmm. OK.

If credit does not go to Herman when the offense performs well, why is he blamed, then, when the offense plays poorly?

    Oh, well. . . .

I sat with Coach Herman at a clinic and he said that the outcome to this game would be different then the past two years. He has what it takes and will get it done.

    Re: Tom Herman

There weren't too many desperation scrambles today. Several designed roll-outs. Herman called a good game today. Gotta hand it to him. And the O-line nutted up, too, but the Coach gets some credit for that, too.

I can't believe some people think the playcalling was still bad. Last week, we ran, ran, passed, punted. This week we punted only twice and threw on first downs. The playcalling was great.

Yeah, he does. Herman earned it. Shovel pass, inside bubble pass, option read, roll outs . . . playing to Steele's strengths, and doing it well. Keeping the Iowa D off-balance with a fine mix of running plays and Jantz's feet and arm.

Players don't play in a vacuum. The coaches either prepare them to win, or fail to prepare them to win (or the players don't have the ability to win). I don't see how the offensive's ability to move the ball and the coach who directs the offense can be separated. You always need terrific players, but they need the playbook tools to get it done.
