    Ferentz?

Was anybody surprised when Ferentz took the FG on 4th and 1 in the 3rd OT? When they kicked that FG I knew the game was over for them!!!

They were getting 3 and 4 yards a pop in OT on our defense. Sometimes being ultra-conservative doesn't pay.

I just think CPR out coached him big time today!!! Go Clones!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Re: Ferentz?

I thought it was a good move by Ferentz. ISU couldn't make a field goal the whole game.

    Re: Ferentz?

Not surprised at all. Ferentz is not a risk taker. Drives many Hawk fans nuts. But he is the Marty Shottenheimer of college ball. Will make the playoffs, but never win a superbowl.

    Re: Ferentz?

Really stupid move not going for it but this game was won by the qb's. ISU's qb >>>>>> Iowa's.

Headline from HawkeyeNation.com. Looks like they are reminiscing to 2010.

    "Revealing Loss in Ames
Iowa’s loss to Iowa State was painful, in more ways than one. It was also a bit alarming, if not revealing and could serve as an ill harbinger for the 2010 season."

    Re: Ferentz?

Not surprised after sitting on the ball at the end of both halves.

    Re: Ferentz?

I thought he was too conservative at the end of regulation. Tie game, minute and a half, two timeouts? Not to mention that ISU had a lot of MO.

    Re: Ferentz?

ISU's D was due for a turnover, as was Coker, probably better odds of ISU missing a FG than making one vs. Iowa keeping the drive alive.

But we were moving the ball at will in OT and making clutch plays all game. I was amazed Ferentz called it but soooo glad he did.

that doesn't make sense... he would have known we'd go for the touchdown no matter what due to that fact, so settling for a field goal wasn't going to cut it

i was praying after that penalty they'd still kick it.. thank god they did

IIRC they showed more than once last year (even with Capt. Stanzi) that the 2-minute offense was not their forte.

You're kidding right? About being surprised Ferentz taking the FG? Most Hawk fans probably weren't (though we were all likely ****** off at the decision). How about the 1:17 and 2 TOs we had at the end of regulation? How about the minute or so and TOs we had at the end of regulation against tOSU in 2009? There is a huge list of questionable, conservative decisions KF has made. Sometimes, it pays off as our opponents find a way to screw up (while we don't). But lately...

No, but they could score TDs at will, apparently.

Right!! That's why I knew we would win after they kicked the FG! We were never going to kick!

Actually reminded me quite a bit of McCarney there in those scenarios.

    Re: Ferentz?

It's the right call... what if they go for it on 4th and fail to convert? Then it's still Ferentz's fault because they didn't take the field goal when they could have.

There's thousands of coulda/woulda/shouldas in this game. I forgot who it was that almost made the interception in OT, but if he'd caught the ball, the game ends right then and there I think.

    Go Sssssssssyclones!
