I wonder if he remembers taking the ball first in OT also?

I didn't like him at times, but you have to like the fact that he had Ferentz's number.

You can argue that he could have done much more, and you'd win that argument.

But you also can't argue that he revived the program and that ISU would be in a much darker place if they canned him after 98 or 99 like some seem to think should have happened and will constantly hold against him when talking about the successes.

I just don't understand why he's such a four-letter word around here anymore. Did they blow some chances, yeah. And they blew a few big ones. But it seems like nobody remembers this time I like to call the 80s and 90s.

Then again I don't know. A lot of it is probably students that showed up in the middle of McCarney's heyday and just assumed that's how it always was.

How many years ago was that? How many coaches removed are we now? Don't we have one of the more revered coaches in the nation right now (seems to get his mug shown on ESPN at least once a year with a post-game speech).

    Seriously. LET. IT. GO.

    Blasphemy.

I'm sure you're the kind of guy who loves CPR now and will smear his name after he leaves. Bravo to you.

That is a good article. I'll always respect Mac for what he did for our program. We were the door mat of college football before he arrived, and he brought us respect and raised the expectations and exposure of our program. I don't think we have Coach Rhoads, a new indoor practice facility, a gigantic new video board, or a soon to be new football facility today if it weren't for Coach Mac.

I love Danny Mac, but I remember that. Wasn't that the Wyoming game? And didn't he choose direction, because he wanted Wyoming to have to face the greater noise at one end of the stadium? Sigh. Good times.

Good ol' Danny Mac. The original Mac, not that...other one.

Plenty of good times under him, tempered with some gawd awful times as well. I'll always appreciate how he got Iowa State up off the death bed and up and walking again.

So many extreme highs and lows during his regime. First bowl in decades followed by several more bowls games. Also had some atrocious teams and some very good teams. I'll think of his stubborn will to persevere and the loyalty he had for his people (to a fault).

His positive attitude was just about the only thing holding ISU football together for several years there, and I will always respect him for playing a large part in taking us from being a laughingstock to solid.

Good coach and tremendous man. I'm grateful to him for his efforts.

    Cheers to Dan

    Re: McCarney Remembers

Great article - thanks for the link!
I miss how the Cyclones stood up to the Hawks, and didn't play scared.
It'd be great to get back to those days, starting tommorrow...
