Top 10 Most Sacred College Football Stadiums

I hope that dude on the WMT radio doesn't see this. I want to keep getting a laugh out of him calling Kinnick the "Mecca of College Football."

College football's 10 most sacred stadiums

I really want to go to an SEC rivalry game at night at either Alabama, Florida, or LSU sometime. The atmosphere has got to be amazing, as well as the scenery.

Only been to Notre Dame Stadium out of those listed. It was amazing, though.

Old timers will recall ISU @ Tennessee in 1982. Guy named Willie Gault had a big day and we lost 23-21.. Big, loud, orange stadium.

I figured a couple on the list would be SEC, but HALF the list, really?

Re: Top 10 Most Sacred College Football Stadiums

I think it would be awesome to go to an SEC rivalry game as well. The only thing is that it would make ISU and Iowa games seem so insignificant. I have heard from ISU friends in SEC country that our tailgating in Ames compares to the big SEC schools just on a smaller scale.

Some guy got a book deal by traveling to all the big stadiums and games and then writing about it. Wish Id have thought of that.

Re: Top 10 Most Sacred College Football Stadiums

I've got a nice, long bucket list of college stadiums that I have to see a game in (I've scratched off one of them so far):

    The Big House (been there)
    Notre Dame
Memorial Stadium (gotta see the Sea of Red)
Death Valleys (both Clemson and LSU, preferably at night)
Happy Valley (again, preferably at night)
    Camp Randall
    The Swamp
    Bryant-Denney
    Rocky Top
    Rose Bowl
    Autzen
    The Coliseum
    The Shoe
    Kyle Field
    DKR Memorial
    Memorial Stadium (OU)

Edit: I forgot to add Sanford Stadium (Georgia)

Was at camp randall last year when they beat Northwestern to make it to the rose bowl. Awesome place!

"We embrace that challenge and what it presents to us. I’m going to approach all 12 games this way: We’re going to win them all. If we prepare and then go out and execute, we’re going to win all 12. Now how many are we going to end up with at the end of the year? I don’t know, and you’re right, I won’t put a number on it."- Paul Rhoads on having the toughest schedule in the Big 12

I've been dying to go up there, everything I hear about the stadium and Madison in general sounds awesome. I was even more ****** than most about the divisional setup for the Big Ten this year, as I had been saving up to make the trip this season.

I have been to nebraska, southern cal, Colorado, kinnick, Alabama vsLSU ( game day at alabama), a&m vs texas @ a&m, Baylor. The list is not terribly long but some good places and I will say that ISU tailgating is at least as good as all off these and possibly the top. Some of the spreads may be a little more high class and some of the fans may be more well known but I'm telling you tailgating at ISU is special.

It IS special...at least until November. Then it's pretty pedestrian with just huddled groups and damaged attendance. That's why it sucks so much that the weather took that first tailgate from us. Sad, it doesn't rain in Ames for the whole month of August and then we get a day-long rain for the first game.

You HAVE to add an ARMY/NAVY game to that list, and a Bayou Classic (Grambling - Southern)
Those are two real american games that turn professional stadiums into the greatest college stadiums for a few hours.

Been to Jack Trice, ND, Mich, Wisc, Illinois, NW, Iowa, WMU, NIU, USD, KU, KSU, Arrowhead, Ford Field, the Superdome, Lincoln Financial and a couple of bowl venues (Independence and Insight) for college games but none of them were as great a place as Lincoln's Memorial Stadium for the Nebraska / ISU game in 09.
