Hopefully the rehab goes well and he still has two more years to play (i.e. he gets a medical redshirt).

Re: Maggitt out for the season

So we're basically down two starting defensive linemen against Iowa in Maggitt and Rump. Rump will try again this week, but as the doctor said, he will be very limited.

Plus, KO is about 70% or so. And Knott is probably about 75% or so too.

It could be a VERY long day I'm afraid. I don't even want to watch it. I have a replay of last year's game going through my mind again for what this year's game will be like.

I sure wish we were healthy. It would help my confidence some.

Re: Maggitt out for the season

I think some of you guys are confusing DE and DL. Maggitt was a DE, so Simon will not help the situation. Neal will move back to DE, so that will help. DE's that can play are Lattimer,Neal, Scott, and Nelson so we are thin, but not as bad as in some past years, where a LBer was the first guy moved to DE. BTW, although none of the DEs were impressive against UNI, none of them stuck out as horrible either.

Re: Maggitt out for the season

If I'm not mistaken, a tore ACL pretty much is most noticable when you try to do things like plant hard or make cuts, right? You could walk or jog just fine with an injured one. That's the weird thing with knees. Sometimes you think the worst thing and it ends up being nothing (my senior year, my knee got a DL thrown into it. Kneecap was literally on the side of my leg. Trainer popped it back in and I didn't miss a down the rest of the season) and then something that seems like not a big deal ends up being a bad injury (i.e. MCL, ACL, PCL, torn miniscus, etc.).

I agree it is strange, but it is not uncommon to see. I remember seeing Terrell Davis walking off the field after he tore his ACL in 1999.

I think it is strange in the sense that, some players have walked off the field with a torn ACL like it was no big injury, while others with the exact same injury lay on the ground grasping their knee in pain like they blew out their entire knee.

It's always tough to see a guy go down with a knee injury, especially in the 1st game.

My recollection is that he sat out his freshman year more to add bulk and learn the position rather than due to an injury. He was more of a linebacker who played at under 200 lbs in high school. Unless they can document some injuries that limited him during his redshirt year, it will be difficult to be awarded a medical/hardship ruling to get a 6th year.
