    From a UNI Panther

    Cyclone fans,

I sincerely hope ISU takes down the Hawkeyes tommorrow. Never have I seen such an arrogant group of fans than those of the Hawkeyes. What makes it so funny is that they have nothing to be arrogant about (6-7 last season!!)

Thus far the Hawks are paper tigers and if the Clones eliminate mistakes, especially costly turnovers, I expect a very tight game.

I've always enjoyed the series (wins and losses) with the Cyclones because as fans of the opposing team, Cyclone fans conduct themselves with class. Unlike Iowa, I believe Cyclone fans will demonstrate patience with a new coach and allow Chizek and his assistants to get their system and players in place.

In my opinion, you have a tremendous leader in Jamie Pollard and I anticipate great things (many already occuring) for ISU under his direction.

Again, good luck against Iowa tommorrow and the remainder of your season!

    Re: From a UNI Panther

I hope you guys kick App St's butt and win a championship this year. I have always liked UNI. I would love for the panthers to kick butt every year, and think it would be awesome for UNI to make the jump to D-1. I also look forward to many years of evenly contested BB games. Atleast we can agree to hate the hawks!!

UNI will never be D1 and I doubt they want to be.

I agree. UNI will never be D1. They just don't have the money or facilities that it takes.

Be careful what you guys say. We're barely D1 based on your yardsticks.

Thanks UNI guy. Nice and classy post.

I have a few friends in the Columbus Ohio area that laugh at the mere notion that hawkeye fans have ANYTHING to be arrogant about.

I had to explain the whole 15 straight wins vs ISU deal(when ISU was easily one of the worst D1 schools year after year) among other things. As far as they are concerned iowa is still a 2nd rate big ten school.

I thinks its waranted. iowa seems to have a huge season as a bona-fide national power(with championship aspirations) about once every ten years. I'll give em that.

    Re: From a UNI Panther

Good luck panthers nice to see that there is at least one Panther fan that isn't a hawk supporter as well. I have to agree with most here. UNI couldn't become D1 because I think there is an attendance requirement for home games someone correct me if I am wrong but I believe it is 20,000 fans average over 3-4 years?

Oh a buckeye fans is such a reliable source on arrogance..If you are not wearing OSU colors then buckeye fans think all teams are second rate.. also Iowa does have a team that is good about every 10 or so years but using the word powerhouse is a stretch. I can only count 1985 (ancient history) as a year where Iowa was a powerhouse...rated number one for half the season...beat #2 in the game of the year only to have Ronnie Harmon "throw" the rose bowl with 5 fumbles...those were his only fumbles that entire season. 4 of those fumbles were inside the 10 yard line.

    Re: From a UNI Panther

Well hell, they ARE Division I, albeit at a different level.

People do seem to be more ignorant about these different levels of classification in college football, and the always-wise NCAA probably doesn't make it any easier with their stupid new "FCS" and "FBS" system. I had to correct my older brother a couple of weeks ago when he referred to Michigan losing to App. State when he called them a Division II team.

    Re: From a UNI Panther

UNI Panther- thank you for the classy post. I owe my existence to UNI (my parents met there)...

UNI is D-I in all sports but football, correct? UNI has always been a traditional powerhouse at I-AA, and was a pipeline to the NFL for more Iowa kids than ISU was for quite awhie... I've enjoyed UNI hoops in recent years as well, winning and going to the dance with a bunch of Iowa kids....

I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered.

Frontrange, yes that's basically correct. We are D-I in football also, but as others have mentioned, we're in the FCS subdivision (ridiculous and wordy, in my opinion). It's easier under the former moniker I-A (Iowa State) and I-AA (UNI). Teams in UNI's division have 20+ fewer scholarships than those in ISU's division.

Now, to the game. What did I tell you, Cyclone Fans?? Bret is looking super and the D has been awesome!! Keep it up and have the Squakeyes crying in their beer tonight!

    Re: From a UNI Panther

Yes, it is one of our pet peeves. We ARE DI, only in football we are in a lower level of DI. In every other sport we are DI (this misconception is the reason for the name change of I-AA to FCS). And no, we cant and do not want to make the jump, dont look for it in the future.

That being said, congrats on a big win today!

    UNI Panther fan.
