    Final TD

Hey, I'm thrilled with the win, but what was with the play calling for the final TD? 3 runs by Jantz to the left side? Woody was just a decoy? It worked, perhaps only because Jantz bounced off the pack and spun around to the outside on the third try. I liked the quick snap on the last play, but wondered why we didn't give the ball to Woody. Aren't short yardage situations his specialty? Maybe that was our main goal line play and we were going to use it no matter what.

    Re: Final TD

Well, it worked the second time... So I'm guessing they decided to do it again.

    Re: Final TD

I figured ISU was trying to eat as much clock as they could, but than there was that play on one of the downs where Jantz snapped the ball with 23 seconds left on the play clock...

Woody also had run the ball 4 times for only 3 yards that night, I wasn't surprised they didn't give it to him.

    Re: Final TD

It's because if you give it to Woody you lose a blocker. Woody acts as a lead blocker on the lead play. That's the play I want to see in short yardage situation anyway.

    Re: Final TD

Woody did not look as hot as Jantz running. Who was our left tackle and tight end at the time?

I loved how he was stuffed running up the middle on the play and then ran the same thing. The next time he ran up the middle and then spun out to the left. He was a whirling dervish and then he ran around the backside top show he was into the end zone so that the quick replay review camera could not overturn. Despite the queer replay operation, he was not to be denied.

Agreed. Go out of the pistol, motion Woody to one side of Jantz and use him as a lead blocker to go off tackle.

I don't care why they didn't do this or that - I'm glad the staff called a solid play and the players executed it well.

Much unlike @ Colorado a few years ago...

You mean an option play at the one yard line doesn't do anything for you?

Woody had good blocks on the first two, but was only pushing on the pile on the third one where we actually scored because Jantz took the quick snap from under center. It was Jantz spinning that got the TD because we didn't move the line. Still, I would like to see a power back in those situations.

Really? Not me. Maybe on a 4th down and short play but when it's 1st and goal on the 1...it's a horrible play call and I'm sure that Rhoads told Herman not to do it again.

You go under center. Everytime there. If you do a QB sneak there and don't get it, it's second and goal from the 1. But a shotgun snap gives you the chance to lose 2-3 yards and than you could be looking at second and goal from the 4 and that changes everything. Under center also gives you a much better fake on a handoff. The fake from shotgun is not near as effective.

You just have so many more options from under center than you do out of a shotgun.

Plus, why are we getting cute against UNI when we need a yard? Line up and push them back

I've lost all confidence in Woody's ability to get a yard when we need it.

I do agree with the QB sneak 100% of the time when you have first and goal at the 1.

The sneak is always a pretty good option. I will never argue with calling that. I would rather have a lead blocker though.
