Wouldn't it be better for KU, KSU, MU, ISU and Baylor

to hang together AS the Big 12, minus the 4 wanderers (OU, OSU, TT, and UT). We five schools form a majority and could then force the other 4 departing schools to pay out the very large departure fee. Then draft BYU, TCU, Louisville, Pittsburgh, Air Force, Boise State, South Florida, UCF, Cincinnati and Houston into a new Big 14. A Big 14 that still has BCS rights...for now...and could likely score a bigger contract than the Big East on a per team basis. That some very good football programs....and an excellent core of basketball schools as well. Further, with a 3 Texas schools and some nice Northeastern presence...recruiting could be very solid.

If the 5 little guys hang together...we can force one helluva a huge payout AND still have the Big 12. Failing that...we take our 5 (Baylor, ISU, MU, KSU, and KU) and join the Big East...along with one more addition such as Houston...and we're suddenly in a BCS super-conference. A conference, I would add, in which we could compete quite well.

Need to have a strong 6 otherwise if all the others leave the conference automatically dissolves. If OU/OSU/TT/UT all leave together and aTm has already left, there is no penalty.

The reason this will not happen, it is better to secure your future than worry about a single year payment.

I don't think the conference would automatically dissolve. It would lose AQ status if it fell below 6. The conference could still exist unless the members voted to dissolve it, which would take a majority.

Yep, that is why Pac 16 always wanted four members so exit fees would be impacted.

I think you forgot the jimlad...there is absolutely 0% chance of this happening. It's probably even a negative percent.

Re: Wouldn't it be better for KU, KSU, MU, ISU and Baylor

The Aggies already left. Having 5 of the existing 9 members vote to stay constitutes a majority. I'm likely incorrect, but as I understood it...a majority vote would keep the conference intact as a legal entity. Does anyone know precisely how the bylaws work on this?

Re: Wouldn't it be better for KU, KSU, MU, ISU and Baylor

Wouldn't you need a majority vote to disband the conference? Since the vote would be to dissolve the conference, inaction should leave the conference alive.

you would need 6/10 to dissolve the conference, if those 5 stick together that would not be possible. That would make sense to me.

The aggies havent already left, theyve informed of their intention to leave. I think they might have a vote until June 30 when they would leave.

So to get a majority with 10 teams, you'd need 6 votes to dissolve the conference.

Re: Wouldn't it be better for KU, KSU, MU, ISU and Baylor

Correct me if I'm wrong...and as I said, I may be incorrect...but once a team has informed the league of its withdrawal, it is no longer is a voting member. Thus, there would only be 9 voting members. As mentioned above...and as the bylaws seem to show...it does take 6 votes to dissolve the conference according to the rules stated, even with 10 members.
