    Kirby VanDerKamp

KV had a 51.2 average on 5 punts. That guy was huge. Despite the 2 touchbacks I seem to remember one of them did a good job flipping the field position.

ISU dominated field position a lot of game. Despite the skeleton crew on the D-line, UNI was forced into situations where they would need to drive the ball typically 55-60 yards if they wanted to think about a field goal attempt.

I think it was his 65 yard punt that was wasted when UNI went on the 10 minute drive from deep in their own territory in the 3rd.

I felt like we started at our 40 vs uni at their own 20 each time. KVC played outstanding

That's a spot on assessment of most of the game.

Anyone remember KV's 1st ever punt last year and how it went 19 yards?
I feel like hes even better than Brandtner.

KVC and Jake Knott were the only two players I saw last night that had solid games from start to finish. Maybe Aaron Horne and James White too?

Lenz would have, but he did fumble a punt which could have cost us dearly.

Steele was good at running all night, but very shaky throwing the ball. Shontrelle basically did nothing, but had no blocking either.

KVC was a stud, even going into the wind. He made their punter look terrible.

If he could have got a couple of those touchbacks to bounce the other way he would have been pretty much flawless.

    Re: Kirby VanDerKamp

The 65 yarder was a touchback. I know because I remembered thinking "He just punted for a touchback and STILL had a net punt of 45 yards!" That's pretty ridiculous. I wouldn't be shocked in the least if he kicked an 80 yard punt at some point. And even better, he's proven he's really good at the fake punt runs, and I think teams have to respect that. As long as he stays consistent, he'll be playing on Sundays.

MVP. Really like the fact he is a leftt footed punter. The balls tails differently. It is nice to have a pro punter on our team.

He may have been slightly better than that UNI Punter.

This guy is a flat out stud. I am seriously wondering if we will have him in 2013 or if he'll be going pro after 2012.

I had to work so couldn't watch the game (going to catch the replay on clone zone eventually).

Looking just at the box score, it seems Kirby must have won the game for ISU. He had more yards on 5 punts than UNI had on 7 punts.

We had no real distinct advantage anywhere else in the box score, and had the definite worst stats in a few areas like turnovers.

Field position was huge yesterday, both on punts and kickoffs. Grant was blasting the ball into the endzone, whereas Lenz had some nice returns and we were starting around the 40 basically every time, and they were in the 20-25 range.

Brandtner even said as much in a pre-game interview. He said VanderK was going to be a much better punter than he was.

I think he will stay all 4 years, unless the scouts tell him he has a chance to get drafted in the 6th round after his junior year. By 2013 we will be playing in the MAC and won't have to punt at all, so he will likely only get drafted in the 7th round.

Punters never leave school early. You only leave school early if you have a chance of being drafted in the first 3 rounds and punters are never drafted within the first 3 rounds, hell they're hardly drafted at all.

Not only did he avg 51.2 per kick, but UNI had ZERO return yards on his kicks. That is freaking huge!!
