    stay positive

Two years ago I sat in Kinnick stadium When I watched UNI almost take down the hawks. that same Iowa team won the orange bowl, this Is UNI's super bowl, and our first game of the year with A Juco QB. it was ugly tonight but we got the W thats all that matters we have a long way to go. we are Fine.

my thoughts on tonight Aron Horne was the MVP, Jantz was good enough win and Flat out won the game for us.

it was a beautiful night for football just not tailgating and the Scoreboard was flat out awesome.

    go cyclones.

Agreed, don't forget 2005 either. Looked awful against Illinois State, then went on to dominate the Hawkeyes.

Believe in CPR and the team.

If the team uses this as a motivational tool and learning experience(which I think they will) we will be fine. Team showed flashes of what we SHOULD be doing to UNI, other times they left you scratching your head. We have a LOT we can improve on for next week, and I hope we do.

Better tell Jantz about the positive thoughts. I think he is still running for his life.

When he stood in the pocket and let plays develop he was great. When he got nervous and started scrambling and trying to force plays, he was overthrowing and throwing into coverage. Once he calms down he will be fine. Look at our offensive play calling, lots of throwing opportunities, obviously he's shown them in practice and scrimmages that they can call these types of plays, and unless Steel playing this poorly becomes a habit I'll have faith in Jantz just like our coaching staff does. Give them some credit...

What about when there were 2 or 3 white jerseys in the backfield two seconds after the snap?

Maybe being in the crowd I didn't have the best view, but I only saw this happen 2-3 times max. Most of our offensive line problems weren't on passing plays, but on running plays from what I saw. Those watching on Clonezone can probably correct me though.

1-0, that is postiive! 4 turnovers and several stupid penalities can be corrected... having WDM Valley's line is an issue, hopefully the mainstays can get back in the action the rest of the year

I was up in the top row & from that high I could see the middle of the pocket caving in & our RT getting pushed around. He did have his best stuff when he didn't get happy feet, but I think he was hearing footsteps all night.

That rug really tied the room together, did it not dude?

I agree he should calm down and not worry about a 3 man rush he has plenty of time to throw.

    Re: stay positive

I still think people are underestimating UNI. They aren't loaded with talent, but they develop guys well, and when they have senior laden teams (the one that almost beat Iowa had 5 seniors on their OL as I recall), they tend to be pretty good.

That said, Jantz's play throughout most of the game was a big reason why our offense couldn't do anything. His passes were way off target for almost all the game until the last two drives. But while his play was the main reason that we were behind most of the game, his play on the last two drives is why we won the game. Still can't believe that he made that throw to Lenz in the back corner of the end zone after how he had been playing up to that point.

    Positives:
Pass defense (other than the blown coverage by Knott for the 80 yard touchdown)
Jantz's play when we needed points.
Offense: Josh Lenz and Aaorn Horne
Defense: Jake Knott and Jacques Washington

    Negatives:
    Injuries and suspensions
    personal fouls and ejections
Jantz's play for the majority of the game
    OL run blocking

I don't know that Knott blew coverage on that play. I'm not sure who's guy that was but if it was Knott on the route that was run, I think the coaches should examine the defensive playcalling. He's a good player, but not fast enough to cover those kind of routes, which is why he's not a safety or corner. My take was someone outside got caught looking into the backfield for a run stop and they couldn't get back in coverage.

As for positives, only one matters: Starting the season 1-0. Team will watch some film and get cracking on beating the Hawks. That will be enough for me.

Yep UNI is in the hunt for a National Title. It's a good thing we didn't play Delaware or William & Mary they are ranked higher than UNI. I feel sorry for whoever they played.

Good summary, pretty much describes the game I saw, I think winning a game like this says more than dwelling on the negatives, UNI executed better and OVERALL looked like the better team LAST NIGHT, in Iowa State coaches I have seen (since 1993) Iowa State always lost when the Cyclones looked like the lesser team, this gives me hope!
