    Redshirts?

I apologize if this information has already been posted, or found elsewhere easily.

Do we know which freshman are redshirting? Are Nealy and Standard redshirted? Lampkin? Thanks in advance.

    Re: Redshirts?

There was word that they were due to the huge stable of backs we have but I can't confirm.

If you ask the basketball analysts outside the state of Iowa I think you would be surprised to hear their responses. Iowa was pegged as a preseason top 5 team by one ESPN analyst and is ranked in the vast, vast majority of preseason top 25 polls

Players not redshirting are JQ Daniels, Quenton Bundrage, Jared Brackens, and Jevohn Miller (barring injuries of course).

    Redshirting happens after the season.

Yeah, every Freshmen would be great to RS until we need them to play because others have not shown up (Jennert, Brooks(injured), Lack of depth at LB).... But I think RB wise we are very deep.... Unless we have major lack of production at WR and they move Nealy, I see both him and Standards keeping RS this season...

    Re: Redshirts?

I was almost sure that Lampkin would play as a kickoff returner. Guess not. I hope they're right here, because the though of Shontrelle and Lenz back there scares me a little. Those are two of their best offensive players.

The two I'm surprised by are Brackens and Daniels. Brackens I thought could use a little time in the weightroom. But maybe Brooks getting hurt and Bennett leaving forced the move. Daniels I thought would need more time to get used to the position. Plus, I figured that he would be bulking up for a future move to TE. He did look like he moved pretty well in the CGC scrimmage and they probably need a blocker out there on bubble screens. With Money dinged, maybe that was the thought.

No surprise that Miller is going to play. I would have loved to RS him and put an extra year between him and Knott, but LB depth is a little bit shaky and he is definitely big enough to play. Plus, he should be a nice special teams player.

If they are serious about playing 4 RBs tomorrow, they are confident in the depth there. I see no reason why Standard and Nealy shouldn't redshirt. I will predict that Standard gives the other four a major battle for the starting spot next spring possibly forcing a position change for either Hollis or White.

    Re: Redshirts?

Wish Lampkin would be returning too, but I know that coaches just having faith that you won't freak-out and drop the ball back there is a big step. I assume this is one of the primary reasons that Lenz gets the job - sure hands, they know he's least likely to drop the ball.

    Re: Redshirts?

I think if Lampkin had played, it would help recruiting in the Omaha area for 2012.

CFH HMagic bball season next year.
Let my Fred's Four Horsemen ride: Georges, Hogue, Nader, and McKay.
