    Patrick Neal >= Rashawn Parker

    Does everyone think that Neal's production this year will be greater than Parker's last year. I know that he is the listed at back up but with the rotation that is planned he will see the field plenty, I think with his motor and heart and the mass and strength that he has put on that the pressure that he and Scott can add will only benefit us more, I look for big things here...

    Considering Neal isn't in the starting lineup, and Parker didn't do much last year, this seems like a really strange post.

    Patrick Neal is going to benifit maybe the most from having more depth at DE. He is not a guy that can give you a lot of reps physically but as a guy that comes in with his motor red hot...then he can be a difference maker.

    Because we're so un-athletic that a high motor is the only explanation for some degree of on field success.

    Code for not being an exceptional athlete. Guys like Jimmer Fredette, David Eckstein, Danny Woodhead; they always have high motors, never-quit attitudes, and they're scrappy, gutty players. See Fire Joe Morgan's analysis of the phenomenon.

    Also fun, when watching MNF football, wait for Jon Gruden to start a sentence with "This guy right here..." If this is immediately followed by, "Is just a gamer/gritty/scrappy player," 90% of the time he's talking about a white guy. Fun times.

    I'm more interested in seeing if we can compare any of the newcomers to Jason Berryman. We need difference-makers at the DE position if we ever hope to finish in the Top 3 of the Big 12. Let's hope guys like David Irving have that ability.

    I wouldn't expect much out of David Irving immediately. He's got great size & is a good athlete, but I think he only started playing football a few years ago; plus he's pretty young. I think he'll be a great player eventually, but he'll probably redshirt this year; and look for him to start making an impact in a few years.

    That's not really the story I've heard on Neal. I've heard that he's kind of an ironman.

    Re: Patrick Neal >= Rashawn Parker

    Neal is not as undersized as Parker was, and lets not forget that Parker had a really bad injury that he probably never fully recovered from. Neal also will benefit from having a real strength coach. It should be interesting to see what happens when the Clones have enough DEs that guys can go full out every play.

    I don't really expect much out of Neal. My expectations are higher for Maggit since he adds a pass rush which was the worst part of our team last year, and it wasn't even close.

    Having a pass rush would make our defense so much incredibly better and give our DBs and Safetys a ton of help. We would go from a bend but don't break to more of a dominant defense that can control games. That is my hope with Lattimer and Neal.

    Disagree by senior year both are almost at identical size, 6ft, 250ish....

    I don't know Kron is ready after his Grayshirt to play but it would be nice to have a 5-6 man rotation, with no drop off, I think in order to have that Nelson needs to show he can do something other that rush the QB, (Lattimer, Maggitt, Neal, Scott, Nelson and Kron) would be very nice, I hope Irving can RS, it would have huge benefit down the road....
