    Tulsa World: Texas' arrogance at heart of Big 12 drama

    Great column by Dave Sittler about Texas, OU, and the future of the Big 12. OU is not happy.

    "Several sources confirmed the A&M situation has developed some serious strains in the OU-Texas marriage. OU, like those who still want to make the Big 12 work, is reportedly fed up with Texas seeing how far it can push the others around with tactics like the Longhorn Network.
    "Texas seems to be losing friends in more places than the Big 12 over all this," said a source with deep roots in college football. "Having a network is fine. But it's just the inference that they are trying to play by a somewhat different set of rules than anyone else that creates problems."

    No, it's not a great column. But this is a nice response;

    This might be the worst piece of sports writing I’ve ever read. I agree that Texas is arrogant, but you said nothing to show how that arrogance has negatively impacted any other team. You also said that OU is “reportedly fed up with Texas seeing how far it can push others around with tactics like the Longhorn Network.” How is a network a tactic? How does it bully other schools? Would Texas object to an OU network?

    This is so poorly written and so untrustworthy. You cite:
    1) a source familiar with the Big 12 expansion committee
    2) a source familiar with the BCS conferences
    3) a source with deep roots in college football
    4) some insiders

    Sounds like you could have just spoken to a colleague or two.

    You use “reportedly” and “apparently” a few times nicely, as if the statement or conclusion came from someone else and you didn’t just make it up.

    Where was the editor? Or was this a “blog” piece in which a journalistic rules don’t apply?

    All you need to know about Dave Sittler is that he is a University of Nebraska graduate. The Huskers continue to cry a river regardless where they are now.
