Notre Dame 1994-2010 = Epic Fail

Notre Dame has not been in the national championship picture for the past 17 years. During that time they’ve only had two seasons with double digit win totals. Nine of those 17 seasons were 7 wins or less.

I’m sure there are many schools that would be happy with that sort of record, but there are many programs that have experienced far greater success during that time, and they’ve done so without all of the built in advantages the Irish enjoy.

In my opinion, Notre Dame’s program over that period amounts to an EPIC FAIL. There is an entire generation that doesn’t remember Notre Dame being Notre Dame.

    Notre Dame Record 1994-2010

    1994 6 5 1
    1995 9 3 0
    1996 8 3
    1997 7 6
    1998 9 3
    1999 5 7
    2000 9 3
    2001 5 6
    2002 10 3
    2003 5 7
    2004 6 6
    2005 9 3
    2006 10 3
    2007 3 9
    2008 7 6
    2009 6 6
    2010 8 5

    *sigh*

why even bring this up? majority of programs (including yours and ours) are an embarrassment in comparison to their history. You must have a distorted view of your programs background.

Yeah, I don't get the point of this at all. Comparatively, Green Bay had not won a Super Bowl since the mid 90's and they were still always considered one of the better franchises in NFL history. The Irish will be back to dominate another era sooner than later.

Not at all. I just get tired of everyone ranking them very high in preseason rankings only to see them tank big time. It compares to Texas being ranked after a losing season and no real upgrades anywhere.

Notre Dame may not have been in the national championship picture, but remember they only need 9 wins for a guaranteed BCS bowl appearance.

I understand what you are saying but not really why you are saying it. They have every advantage that a program could ever wish to have but haven't produced for one reason or another. We get that.

That fact remains, they are a national brand. Not power, brand. Wins or not they have one the biggest, most dedicated followings in sports and tradition up the *** to match. ISU, and Mizzou for that matter, would kill for Notre Dame's profile.

For the record, I can't stand ND but I think Brian Kelly is a winner and will get them significant again.

I think Texas currently deserves much more "hype" as a program than ND.Even the years ND snuck in the BCS they got completely dominated. They are one of the most tradition rich programs in the country but they haven't been among the elite since the Holtz years.

so you are saying Notre Dame having its own dedicated network (NBC) all these years didn't give them a competitive advantage?

Exactly, they're like the Cubs, Yankees or Cowboys etc... Success isn't a factor in the media hype they're going to get.

Somebody's jealous that the Big 10 wants ND and not Mizzou.

“It’s beyond pride. It’s a restored trust. There’s a confidence again, a passion that teeters on swagger. More than anything, (Iowa State head coach Paul Rhoads) has restored the Iowa State “it” factor, the steadfast belief that it is great to be a Cyclone...the man’s enthusiasm is genuine to the core...”

So basically, QBUMizzou, everyone thinks you are saying that Notre Dame would not be a great get for the Big 12 and we should aim for something bigger.

Is that the intention of this thread or are you just frustrated about the preseason rankings, and be honest.

Not at all. Mizzou would love to have ND join. It's all about the undeserved hype and rankings.

People say preseason ranking don't matter. They're wrong. It's tough to climb into and up the rankings. Mizzou was 7-0 last year, and beat Oklahoma (ranked #1), but never got close to the top 5 because they started so low in the polls. Of course, they tanked the next week and ruined the whole thing. lol.
