    2011 offensive scheme

Are we still going to be using the read-option as our primary look? Last season with Arnaud dinged up we went to the pistol most of the time. Anyone know? I missed the spring game and haven't been to any scrimmages.

While on live TV, Ford used a vulgar term to describe a private part of the female anatomy, adding that he was “happily married” and “got more than enough to eat at home.”

IMO I don't think we will see a whole lot of read options. We had to do that becase we had two QBs that had trouble throwing. With Steele, I think we have the full package. Once the season starts going, I think we will see alot of passing actually.

Our new offense will be called "The Steele", in which we place Jantz on the field and CPR tells him, "Son, score a touchdown on this play" and Jantz makes it so.

This is a similar offensive strategy to the one where Mr. Burns told Daryl Strawberry to hit a home run.

The read option is the staple run play of our (any the spread) offense. It was for Herman at Rice, it has been here.

It actually wasn't for Herman at Rice. Hermans offense at Rice passed over 50 times a game. And by watching some Rice film, I hardly watched them run a read option.

Please stop making stuff up. You didn't watch their film and if you did, than I don't think you know what a read option is.

They most definitely ran the read option

They passed 39 times a game and ran the ball 35 times

Completely false, his Rice teams were very balanced. Chase Clement (the QB you watched on film) ran the ball about 12-15 times a game himself. He ran for 1700yds in his career and 26 tds. That hardly screams pass happy offense. The best part is Jantz seems to fit the mold of a guy who can do both.

I'm curious to see if the time Mike Leach spent with Herman while in Ames has any effect on our offense.

    Re: 2011 offensive scheme

If you listen to Herman, he said when he took the job that he wanted to run the ball more at Rice but didn't have what he needed to do so. They were a throwing threat and he exploited that. He went on to say that he wants a balanced offense of run and pass.

ISU has been just the opposite of Rice, our talent has been in the running game and not so much in the passing game.

    Re: 2011 offensive scheme

The zone read will continue to be part of the offense. As others have pointed out, Herman used it heavily at Rice.

It looked we were pretty even between shotgun and pistol at the Spring Game, but I have nothing other than casual observation to back that up.

In 1984, I was hospitalized for approaching perfection.

Doubtful, but interesting. If I recall correctly, didn't Herman work with Leach before?

That and he had a good QB and a very good WR that I believe got drafted in 2009 IIRRC.
