SBNation: Big XII Power Trends, 1950-2010

The Big 12's Power Trends - Football Study Hall

Interesting stuff. He used game scores compared to average scores of all other games to determine the percentile rank of each team for each season from 1950 - 2010. Also plotted the 10 year average.

You can spend a lot of time and money picking out the perfect floral bouquet for your date ... but you're probably better off checking if you have bad breath and taking the porn out of the glove compartment.

The moral: you gain more by not being stupid, than you do by being smart. Smart gets neutralized by other smart people. Stupid does not.

Your Did You Know of the day: in back-to-back hires, Iowa State brought in Johnny Majors and Earle Bruce to coach the 'Clones in 1968 and 1973. And as a result, they actually became a damn strong program for a decade or so there. Since then, success has been, to say the least, sporadic.
Glad to see someone outside the state finally acknowledge that ISU is not some desolate black coaching hole.

That kind of puts the McCarney years in perspective.

Now that is what I like to see, a true approach to judging a team's strengths based on actual facts. Yes, there are deficiencies when using math formula's but you really can't argue against the numbers...

Wonder if there is a 60 year average or the current 10 year average listed out, just for quick comparisons sake.
