Everett's mother describes injured son's progress

ESPN - Everett's mother describes 'miracle' for Bills TE - NFL

    I've been watching this closely.

It would be an amazing story if this guy in fact was able to walk again. A medical miracle.

Also, there were something done with him that had never been done before. A solution (saline I think) was put into his body minutes after the injury, to cool his body down.

Link describing experimental procedures used with Everett

This has never happened that quickly after this type of injury before and could very well be a big reason he's making this kind of progress.

I've been following that one closely too. The change in prognosis from Monday to today is nothing short of miraculous.

A friend once told me that his mom (a nurse) said that if you are ever in a bad accident and you are still coherent when medical help arrives, one of the best things you can do to help you live is to immediately ask for a saline solution injection.

    Don't ask me why.

My understanding is that it puts you in a hypothermic state. Kind of like when someone gets really, really cold. It slows the body down, and prevents further damage. In this case, it sounds like it reduces swelling in the spinal column.

Re: Everett's mother describes injured son's progress

What's one of the first things you do when you sprain an ankle, twist a knee, etc?

    Put ice on it.

Other areas of your body are really no different. It is one of those "common sense" things that takes a while to figure out plus - cooling an entire body down is far different than putting ice on an ankle.

When they bring him back up, they have to do it very slowly.
