    What does Texas have back?

I can't imagine Texas is going to be much better this year unless they have a huge uptick in recruiting talent coming in. I think they are in a down cycle. With the way CPR is going we should be able to capitolize on that fact. Thoughts?

Everyone expects them to be back, but I'm thinking the same thing: why? I think we can make it two years in a row. Mac may be on his way out...

I assume most analyst along with myself don't believe talent was the problem in Austin last year. They have great athletes, and may be more humbled this year. They also have new coaches to help. Gilbert may or may not be the quaterback this year but the rest of the team is stacked as usual.

The goal is to get into Gilbert's head again...that being said if he is the starter.

I donít care where you come from, whether itís Texas, Florida, California, or right here in the state of Iowa, I donít care about any of thatÖ But what I did care about is moving forward from that day on, that we were one team." -Paul Rhoads

In theory if you have the talent and the execution is bad it's the coaching. UT fans and most everyone else expect that the new OC and DC will reinvigorate the Longhorns. We shall see...

I agree that I don't think they will be that much better. I do see maybe 7 or 8 wins but that is about it for them. I don't understand the bolded statement. Texas always has the best recruits in the conference. I think last year was some bad coaching and inexperienced players due to losing too much at one time. Changes in coaching will help but it will take Texas a little while to completely gel. I expect them to be better than last year but I also see them getting better as the season goes on.

They are in a similar situation as ISU. Defense is returning a lot of starters and expected to be good. Offense has question marks due to the QB situation. But they are breaking in new coordinators as well.

They have plenty of 5 start athletes on that squad, so that is why most will give them the benefit of the doubt that they'll be much improved.

    What does Texas have back?
Well... Since 2008 they give or take a few they have....
    6 5* recruits
    59 4* recruits
    14 3* recruits with a rating of 5.7 meaning they are .1 (5.8) away from being a 4*

Thats what Texas has back and gets to play with EVERY single year. They had a down year with that much talent they could be NC this year. THey will be good.

They just weren't very good upfront last year. If they improve their line play then I would expect them to be back to 9 or 10 wins.

To answer your thread title... Yes, the city of Amarillo has been found. It was missing for all of 2010. The state can expect at least 100,000 taxpayers when it gets folded back into the Texas state budget.

Wow, that must have been one wild trip to the Ozarks.

And I think they will. Just not by game 4 of the new season with Red River looming the next weekend.

Re: What does Texas have back?

We get them at a great time, early in the year and right before the OU game. They will be breaking in a new offense and maybe a new QB from the sounds of it.

They do deserve the benefit of the doubt as they are Texas and Mack Brown may not make it back to Austin if they lose to us again. He can come be an assistant for us again if he needs to though.

Re: What does Texas have back?

To me the Texas game is THE game of the year. If we come into that game at 2-1 at the least a win against a beatable Texas in Ames would be huge. Not only would beating Texas two years in a row be almost unimaginably great from a recruiting standpoint but would mean we'd only need to squeeze out 3 more wins out of the next 8 games to get to a bowl. Still a challenge considering what we've got but would be doable.
