    The Bears

So I know most people are hating on Jay Cutler, but they just announced a statistic on MNF. The Bears gave up 1 sack every 9.3 drop backs the worst in the NFL. ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? That is just terrible, no excuse for that what so ever. But they keep signing new running backs, new quarterbacks yet they drafted one offensive lineman last year. How good could this team be if they spent some money on the offensive mind? Keep in mind they gave up those kinds of numbers last year and still made it to the NFC championship game.

Dont hate Cutler, its hard to make a play when you only get 2.3 seconds to throw the ball.

    Re: The Bears

Jay Cutler has all the tools, has made all the throws, but has massive mental breakdowns to often. It also doesn't help that his line sucks, and he has no legit receivers. When Devin Hester(a nickle cornerback in college) is one of your starting guys, you are in trouble. Roy Williams is not good either.

Is he getting sacked because he's holding the ball too long, or because his line actually sucks?

It's the line. They are pretty bad.

Watch the game tonight. This is as good as I've seen the Bear's line play in the past year, and it's just mediocre.

The other problem is the Martz-fense, which I'm positive was dreamed up by Mike to kill as many quarterbacks as possible. If you're having your quarterback take 7-step drops and throw 30 yard passes, you better have a great line to protect the signal caller. The Bears... umm, don't.

which is odd, because the "Greatest Show on Turf" featured a lot of 3 step drops and quick slants.

    Re: The Bears

The O-line and Martz are the problem. Cutler and Forte would put up huge numbers if they didn't have the worst line in the NFL.

    Re: The Bears

I think Cutler gets more crap than he deserves, but as long as he's a Bear, I want to see him planted on his back.

The Bears got much farther than a team with that line ever should last year. Won't happen again.

    Re: The Bears

Cutler tonight was 12-21 and that was with 3 drops that were easily catchable. This WR group isn't very good.

    Re: The Bears

Cutler is in the top 3 as far as talent goes IMO. His mental ability, poor line, and horrible receivers keep him from reaching that top echelon of quarterbacks. I am not a Bears fan, but what is it with Chicago's management in not going after better WR?

    Re: The Bears

Everyone likes to bag on Cutler because he doesn't "smile" pretty for the cameras like Mr Manning. He still led them to the NFC championship last season with basically nothing for an offense and I don't think anyone picked them to finish better than 2nd in the NFC north last year.

This. The Mike Martz offense demands frequent deep drops and little protection. A high number of sacks and interceptions will always be a part of the offense. However, if you have the line to pull it off, like he did in St. Louis, it's a thing of beauty. I've always been surprised why the Bears run it considering their offensive line isn't good.

Well there aren't many offenses designed for bad lines. I'd rather have an offense that takes shots deep instead of one that just settles for three yard checkdown after three yard checkdown.

    Re: The Bears

Running backs are blockers in this offense, I think Barber was a great pick-up. Although I did see him blow a block last night that left Cutler in the dirt. I believe the Bears are developing a good young receiving core with Knox, Bennett, Hester, Jimmy Young (TCU) and picked up Sam Hurd & Roy Williams. To bad they let Aromishadu go I thought he was one of thier better ones.
