The new trophy is a total piece of ****. At least its like a new start for us though. And Iowa State will start this series off with the first WIN!

Re: Old Cy-Hawk trophy speaks out

I have zero faith that a redesign would happen... but man oh man I wish it would.

Everyone needs to sign that online petition linked to in the other thread.

This trophy is just such a slap in the face to all the fans of this game by trying to turn it into cheap PR/lobbying and marketing.

Corn lobby, your name is all over this freaking thing, you don't need the trophy to also be a blatent marketing effort as well that VERY clearly ignores anything having to do with the game being played to win said trophy.

Besides, the idiots who decided this was a good idea for a trophy totally ignored the 50 foot rule: Small details are impossible to recognize from any sort of distance, and this trophy completely relies on small details to understand. It would make a great life-size statue to put outside their headquaters... but is a terrible choice for a football game trophy!!

Change the Cy-Hawk trophy - Petition Spot

If you didn't see this before, here is the link again... Cyclones and Hawkeyes both need to come together to sign this thing. 800 odd signatures is clearly not enough. Contact your family members, friends and etc. to get rid of this trophy. CF and HN need to do a joint operation to get everyone on board. Students at both schools need to be pointed in the right direction.

If it isn't gone before the first game, organized chants of some sort should be shouted during the game. This is worth blowing a sponsorship over... Someone else will pick up and do a much better job the next time around.

It's a trophy. A pretty awful one, but yet still just a damn trophy.

This. Fales's "Whats Buggin Andy" segment was spot on last night. Its most defiently not the trophey I would of chosen, but it still just a damn trophy. All this backlash is getting a tad ridiculous.

This has been my point since it was revealed. Could it be better? Of course, but simply put, we play a trophy game against Iowa and it fills the void of needing a trophy. Heck...because it is so unique it actually might benefit from that after a few years. Do you think there would be this amount of "buzz" nationally if it were another design?

Murphy brought up a good point, there is a way to promote your agenda and keep it relevant to the sport. Example the Iowa Corn Indy car trophy.

If that is your standard, then pulling a shovel out of someone's garage and wood-burning the words "Cy-Hawk Trophy" on the handle would have sufficed.

Re: Old Cy-Hawk trophy speaks out

For the "it's just a damn trophy" crowd, I'll say this. We already had a freaking trophy for the game, so, we already had "just a damn trophy." So any and all criticism they're getting for changing the trophy, especially to it's current state, is well deserved. It S U C K S and apparently only the grandmothers of the current trophy's designers like it. Otherwise it's pretty clear the screwed the pooch badly here.

    Cyclone
Iowa State became the Cyclones after they leveled Northwestern in 1895. As the Chicago Tribune (9/29/1895) noted:
    'Struck by a Cyclone
It Comes from Iowa and Devastates Evanston Town'

This would be a great trophy. Seriously.

    Whoever.

What object says "farm" more than a shovel? A tractor would be cool but it won't happen. Horse/cow ****? That would be problematic. Playing for a shovel would kind of be like playing for an ax, just not as cool.

I suppose we could play for a pheasant or a shotgun...shotgun would be pretty cool...

I agree. If they asked my opinion of the trophy, I would tell them it sucked...bad. I cant think of many worse ideas they could of come up with for this trophy (while at least remaining somewhat relevant), but Im not going to go out of my way, as a fan, to demand something better.
