    Car Trouble

06 Caravan started making a weird noise last night. Really loud, almost like a siren sound coming from under the hood. It increases and decreases its pitch with the RPMs. Any thoughts? I mean literally, like a siren.

To expand on this, I'd check to make sure that any idlers/tensioners are adjusted properly. Also, try and see if you can tell if any of the components that the belt(s) drive are seizing.

EDIT to add: Narrowing down the source of the sound can be tricky. One method I've heard of is using a section of garden hose, with one end to your ear, to help isolate sound from a single region. I've never tried this myself, and if you do, make for damn sure to be careful since the motor will be running and rotating machinery takes no prisoners.

I had an air conditioner compressor seize on my old car, making the belt scream like the dickens as the thing was dying. Thankfully my AC was on a separate belt from the serpentine, so I could just cut off the belt once the compressor seized completely and smoked the belt. (Sidenote: try to avoid traveling across Nebraska in late July without AC...it sucks more than a trip across that state does to begin with.)

Is anyone in your neighborhood missing a cat?

Power steering pump. Check the fluid level. IB

Check the flux capacitor override. It can stick if you don't regularly hit 88 mph.

Seriously though, I've had a squeal in my Jimmy I've been chasing for 1 1/2 years. I've changed everything, even all the pulleys. Good luck to ya, it's very frustrating.

That rug really tied the room together, did it not dude?

If nothing else, your neighbors might find this amusing

    Re: Car Trouble

my ffirst thought was belt but after i heard it i wasnt sure. its not a squeak or squeal, its a whir or like i said a siren sound. and a new twist is it doesnt do it all the time. did it all last nite and then not this a.m. i looked under the hood when i gassed it up and the power steering fluid was low so i will try that idea. sorry for typos im on my fone.

Fingers crossed that low fluid is the cause since it's an easy fix. My AC compressor was also intermittent, especially at first.

Maybe an air leak on the intake side.

Did you drink too much and are mistakenly driving a cop car? I've done that once or twice.

I didn't know cops are driving caravans now. Maybe you are mixing drinking with too many drugs.
