    Tailgate for Iowa Game

Since we graduated in '06 my friends and I have always gone up around 10PM Friday night and gotten in line for the student lots to tailgate for the Iowa game. This year, with the addition of several children, we are thinking it might be time to move to different public lots. Any advice on which ones and what time we would need to line up so we aren't sitting in line through prime tailgating time?

Lot next to G7 was where we started out. I think they open about the same as the donor lots, 6 hrs before kick.

    Re: Tailgate for Iowa Game

Having to wait in line a day before a game started was the single biggest reason I donated my $100 to the NCC and bought a $50 G7 parking pass. I can show up about 10 mintues before the lot opens and know I have a guaranteed spot. Donor lots are always 6hrs before kick, or 7AM, whichever comes first.

After the donation, that parking is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay cheaper than the public lots too, if you make every game.

I never get why people tailgate in the public lots until they're about 35 for every single game when they're season ticket holders who make every game. It's just throwing money away and creating more work for yourself. I party as hard as I want to in G7 and so does everyone else I know there.

So my recommendation is that if you're going to be going to most games, pony up for the G7 pass. If not, stick to a public lots east of the main student lot on 16th St.

Not a season ticket holder in football.....yet.....just love getting back to Ames for the game time atmosphere even if we aren't able to get into the game. We buy single tickets here and there. Someday we'll be at every game....someday

I'd look into the lots farther east on S16th St then.

What kind of vehicle do you have? The Haunted Forest lot might not be a bad call either. Especially if Squaw Creek doesn't flood in the next 4 weeks.

I think there was a separate line for it and G7 in '09, but it wasn't that long. You might have a pretty good chance at being able to roll in at 5AM over in the Haunted Forest.
