    Chiefs Info

Chiefs coach Todd Haley said Sunday that offensive lineman Jared Gaither, signed last week after his contract expired with Baltimore, would begin his Kansas City career at left tackle.
Gaither practiced with the second-team offense during Sunday afternoon’s workout, lining up at left tackle. Gaither, who is listed at 6 feet 9 and 340 pounds, is a fifth-year lineman who started 26 games with the Ravens in 2008-09. He suffered a back injury last year and missed the season.
Haley said Gaither’s top priority would be improving his conditioning after an extended layoff, made longer by the NFL lockout.

    Quinton Lawrence

Quinton Lawrence has been converted. 100%.After bouncing on and off the Chiefs 53-man roster since selected as a sixth round out of McNeese State in 2009, Lawrence made the unlikely move as a third-year pro from wide receiver to cornerback. It’s a switch he’s come to completely embrace.

Lawrence knew a switch might be coming, but wasn’t able to get confirmation from the coaches because of lockout restrictions. The move became official when Lawrence reported to training camp.

The Chiefs began toying with Lawrence as a defensive back last season as a scout team player. Injuries had forced the wide receiver to switch sides and give the offense coverage looks. He was previously two-way player at McNeese State, playing in defensive sub-packages as a freshman and senior, but had always been a return man and wide receiver first.

    8/14 Chiefs Practice

    - After beginning Sunday’s practice with a full slate of players, three Chiefs left practice early. Anthony Toribio, Amon Gordon and Eric Bakhtiari all saw their practices cut short. There is no additional information on any of the injuries.
    - Quinten Lawrence continues to show promise at his new position. The wide receiver turned cornerback led the Chiefs with seven tackles Friday night and made several nice defensive plays Sunday including a pick-six off Ricky Stanzi. He’s also recorded the biggest hit of camp, tackling FB Shane Bannon behind the line of scrimmage during last week’s night practice.
    - Despite begin out of football for nearly two years, veteran WR Keary Colbert isn’t showing much rust in the receiving game. Matt Cassel looked his way this afternoon for a third-down conversion as Colbert broke free in front of Brandon Carr.
    - Derrick Johnson forced a fumble after Dexter McCluster came out of the backfield to catch a short check-down pass in front of the linebackers.
    - In competitive 11-v-11 work, Cassel found Tony Moeaki on third-down crossing route that went for 20+ yards after the catch. The defense later stalled the drive when Jon McGraw sniffed out a screen pass to McCluster on a third-and-13 snap.
    Something that was overheard

“He’s a little undersized, but other than that he’s got tremendous potential.”
-NT Kelly Gregg’s sarcastic analysis of 6-9, 340-pound T Jared Gaither

    Re: Chiefs Info

Thanks for the info. Kind of a waste of a game on Friday, then again i don't blame them for not playing alot of the starters.

    Re: Chiefs Info

Are the Chiefs looking to move Albert from LT to RT with the addition of Gaither?

    Re: Chiefs Info

I believe it will most likely be a second stringer, and someone for Albert to learn from. I still believe Albert will remain in his position. With that stated it seems every year we (Chiefs Nation) talk about the Chiefs replacing LT Branden Albert, and moving him to guard or right tackle.
