    Outside of Iowa City

Is there a fan base in the NCAA that thinks more highly of itself and its athletic "accomplishments" than Texas A&M? Don't get me wrong, it's great to be wanted and good for them if they've got another place to land, but it's not like A&M is some powerhouse. In fact, with rare exception I'd call them a perennial underachiever.

Doug Gottlieb tweeted this morning: "Texas A & M can win Big 12 any year due to resources/talent, just another school in SEC." That might be exaggerating but it's not far off. And it underscores how little A&M has accomplished that even in "just" the Big 12 they've been no better than mediocre for nearly the conference's entire existence.

If A&M underachieved in the Big 12, they will fade into athletic obscurity in the SEC. Other than a pure ego play, I can't see why this is an attractive long-term move for A&M.

Even if they are in middle of the pack in the SEC, they will still be in a much more secure spot and making more money than they did with the Big 12. Easy decision for them if you ask me. Also, A&M has the talent pool in the state and resources to become a power again.

Don't forget the great recruiting tool; You can play for an SEC team the best conference in America. Add that too more money, extended recruiting base to the South East Coast and they would be sitting pretty.

There was an excellent graphic that the NCC had in a flier a few years ago that showed athletic budgets compared to # of Big 12 championships. I wish I kept it. Mizzou actually had the worse ratio, but I believe aTm was down there with them.

I think it's exaggerating that they could win the big 12 any year. Be careful what you wish for is my comment to them. And the SEC might be the premier football conference now, but that also changes on a dime.

A&M is worse than the Hawks.

they will still be in a much more secure spot
The irony here of course is that A&M created the instability that exists in the Big 12. If A&M had just been happy, there would be NO instability.

    Re: Outside of Iowa City

A&M might be the single most underachieving program in the country in the last 10 years. They aren't even very relevant in the Big 12 currently. I guess this is their attempt to try to break out of that.

They have all the infrastructure that it takes to become a powerhouse program. They just haven't been able to do it, with UT and OU dominating them on the field and recruiting wise.

Maybe this move will change that?? Only time will tell, but to say that they will never be more than a middle of the pack team in the SEC is a very short sighted viewpoint.

They are still a very large school, in an enormous state. They have a lot of alumni so plenty of $$$ to compete in the SEC. Texas has enough talent to supply UT, OU and A&M with enough talent to be top 10 programs.

They will certainly need to get a better coach in order to elevate their program, but it can be done.

If you take out the last 10 years, there aren't more than a small handful of teams that can even argue that they are on Nebraska's level historically.

The 90's weren't that long ago, and they dominated that decade as much as any college football program has every dominated a 10 year span.

    Re: Outside of Iowa City

Listening to the Podcast right now with Blum and CW, learned a little fact: Since Big XII has been existence (15 years), Texas A&M has made a bowl game in 10 of those years, and their record in those bowl games is 1-9. No doubt they have talent and good resources, but where do they get this sense of entitlement from? ISU has more bowl wins than that, 3 if I'm not mistaken.

    Re: Outside of Iowa City

Who cares? They don't want to get marching orders from Austin and have a viable out. Good for them. It's a bit odd how many are willing to sympathize with Texas because that's their meal ticket. That's the dynamic that causes the Big 12 collapse - not the school notcwilling to participate in the Texas fap.

I think its a dumb decision. They'll never make a BCS bowl in the SEC.

It's had to understand if you've never spent time there but the arrogance of the average Texan is off the charts. I've met tons of them that have never accomplished anything in life but strut around like peacocks simply because they were "Born a Texan".
