Ranking the Big 12's top 10 linebackers

I don't think I'm alone when I say I'd like to see more and more planets fall under the ruthless domination of our solar system.

by the looks of it Knott will be on Ubben's top 25. I'm going to guess 10 to 16.

He did mention the weak D-Line inflating the tackle numbers, which I would agree with. I hope these two guys prove they are the real deal and not one year wonders.

I really could care less what their numbers are as long as the defense as a whole improves.

The staff has stated that the DL should be improved this year. Even a small improvement will help the defense as a whole. JK and AK47s tackle numbers may go down, but they will also have more of an opportunity to make plays behind the line of scrimmage and the D will be better overall.

I definitely think they're the real deal. The tackle numbers were impressive and may have been slightly higher due to less DL tackles. However, just watching those two tells you all you need to know. They were everywhere. They made plays when nobody else did and when we needed them. Obviously, ranking them against all other LB's in the Big 12 and nationally is always going to be subjective, but they are very good players no matter what happens.

Couldn't the opposite argument be made? That a weak D-Line leads to more blockers making it to the second level? Therefor, making the LBer's job more difficult?

I don't know, somebody tell me I'm nuts here.

A weak D-line means that we aren't getting many stops at the line of scrimmage, the DTs have very few tackles. At the same time, an improved DL holds their gaps better and allows the linebackers to get up and make plays behind the LOS. A lot of Knott and Klein's tackles were after the ballcarrier already got 5 yards or more.

I thought the job of the defensive line was to occupy blockers and keep them off the linebackers to free them up to make tackles. Looks to me like they did their job when you have two linebackers both go over 100 tackles on the season. We didn't have a GREAT DL, but it was adequate, at least in run blocking. Our DL problem for the last several years has been lack of a pass rush.

I'm really excited about these 2 guys, they are not just talented they work their butts off. I'd love to see them finish their careers off with a couple bowl wins!

and i take the staff at their word. Our coach has never said something that wasnt true. He doesnt blow smoke for the sake of faking a fire.

Where's the K State linebacker that was picked ahead of Knott for preseason Big 12 honors?

What's great about it is that they are both just Juniors.
