    External Hard drive question

I just purchased a western digital 1 TB harddrive. But I must be a complete idiot, because I have no idea how to put my pics and music onto the damn thing. The instructions arent too clear on it on actually putting things onto it.

If anyone knows of a simple step that I may be missing, I'd appreciate the help.

Did you partition and format it?

What OS? I don't recall having to format any of mine, they were just P&P. Even the seagate I just added connected by itself and grabbed a drive letter in Win7.

    Re: External Hard drive question

I just bought the same exact thing...is it a "My Book" model? It opens in two locations, one to set it up and set your security. The other would be just going into My Computer and opening up the drive that says My Book. Once you open it up, it should be empty, then you just drag and drop into it. That's how mine works at least.

Its an older desktop and it runs XP.

There is a "quick formatter", but i thought that was just if it was a Mac.

I don't use the software that's on it...i just treat it like its a flash drive. I've had a 500g for probably 5 years and used it the same way and its been just fine.

When I open it up under my cpu, it has the manual, a few other folders, and the software for it.
