    More fuel to the fire

    Juice blogs The Hawkeyes

Holy smokes, talk about your hate for ISU! This is exactly why we play this game because if we weren't so "deserving" to play Iowa then why would Iowa fans get so worked up over the game every year. Like I said in my blog, if ISU wins it's "just another game on the schedule" for the Hawks but if Iowa wins they'll let ISU fans hear it and lay it on thick. Yup, sounds like a rivalry to me...

Good god Trav, do you know this guy? Is he just covered in black and gold body paint at all times, spitting incoherence and slurs from every orifice?

    "GARRGHH...HAWKEYES #1! MMPPHHTT...BLEEARRGH ISWHO..WORTHLESS! ACK...THHBBT I SWEAR FEALTY TO FRY! ACK!"

I imagine that this guy's brain is just a constant mash up of UI highlights, with a thin veneer of alcohol, failure and vomit.

Re: More fuel to the fire

I don't personally know him. Met him when I got my photo done for my blog and that was the day the whole Douglas mess went down. I mentioned it but didn't give him crap about it being the civilized person I am. No after reading his blogs I don't think I would have felt too bad had I really given him crap about it back then, that recent post came out of left field to me. I know everyone wants to stir the pot but he not only did that put p!ssed in it as well.

Re: More fuel to the fire

I hate this guy just as much as the best of them, but I did find one of his lines particulary funny where he assured us that Iowa State would come out and play like King Kong.

I honestly don't think that is possible, but I have been wrong before.

Re: More fuel to the fire

Hawkeyes have one thing going for them...their big mouths! Their new little boy Julian Vandervelde is learning how to stick his big foot in his big mouth. Julian, as quoted in today's press which I read in the Cedar Rapids Gazette, "It wasn't until eight minutes left in the fourth quarter when we were really able to stand around on the sidelines and joke about it a little bit and point up at the scoreboard and say, look what happened to Iowa State,'' Vandervelde said. "That was a lot of fun for us.'' Now JV's not the brightest bulb on the string even though he was offered a scholarship to Stanford, which he turned down just because he always wanted to play at Iowa. He still wouldn't be playing had his thieving teammates not gotten themselves arrested. Hawkeye's, welcome to Ames, I hope you have even more fun at our expense while you are visiting with us! I live in the eastern part of this state and I am getting really ticked at the red-neck Hawkeye fans flashing their bright lights in my rear view mirror or giving me the finger because of my ISU plates. They get the award for most obnoxious college football fans!

Re: More fuel to the fire

I think we should go after Vandevelde's knees on Saturday. If we ruin his season or his career that would be fine with me. Good luck with the Wal-Mart managerial position with that degree /sarcasm

I've been flipped off, cussed out, and had stuff thrown away from State fans (not while in Ames) - so I'm sure there are fans like that all over.

Hey, SouthernHawk, it looks like we can agree that all schools have obnoxious fans. The problem is that there is an inordinately high number of these "fans" concentrated around Iowa City and Eastern Iowa, I lived in Cedar Rapids for twenty years, so I speak from quite a bit of experience.

Actually, I'm not going to agree with you. One of the reasons I transferred from Iowa to ISU was because of the people in that area. Unfortunately, about 40% of them are from Chicago, and have this arrogance that they are on top of the world.

The type of Hawk fan I like to associate myself with, as do most, is the hard-working Iowan. ISU fans I'm sure like to associate themselves with this image as well, and not the obnoxious type.

Whether they are from Chicago, New York, or Africa, they are still residing in Iowa City. If that is 40% of them, then there are still 60% from there like that. I'm having a hard time seeing how you 'disagree' with the above posters comments.

Associating with 'hard-working Iowans' is just one of those Hawkeyeisms. Hard-working people can include a multitude of types both good and bad. It's no different than the built in Super Bowl excuse.

There are distinct differences between ISU and Iowa fans. A lot of it has to do with Doctors/Lawyers vs. Farmers/Engineers as well as the high number of Iowa fans that have no association with the University. Iowa State does not have many of those because it hasn't had the level of success necessary to bring those in. There are definately obnoxious fans on both sides but trying to reason that the scale is balanced is ridiculous. I've found that alot of Hayden Fry wanna be old men are some of the worst at attacking ISU. I guess they are just 'hard-working Iowans'.

By the way, the worst possible ones are those ISU students that root for Iowa. BLAH.

Re: More fuel to the fire

The worse Iowa fans are the ones that know absolutely nothing. Some of the girls in my office are talking ***** about the game, b/c ISU lost to UNI and they think Iowa was going to win by 50 points. This was going on all day, then I asked them "Who is Iowa's QB this year?" Their response, "Drew Tate" It was great.
