    This year's recruiting class ranking.

Don't look now, but this class has 9 verbals already and 8 are 3 stars with only Kane Seeley rated as a 2 star. That is an average of 2.88 stars, which, so far, is up from 2.65 last year. We are at the moment ranked 8th/10 which which is better than last years 11th/12. This class has the potential to be a much higher ranked class when it's all said and done than last year. (notice I didn't say better as that won't be decided for 3 to 4 years and especially not until this class is full) This is especially true because the staff seems like it will have the opportunity to really go after some bigger fish with this class being the fastest to fill up in recent history at ISU.

Just some food for thought and something to discuss while waiting for the season to start.

Agreed. While most don't have offer sheets that will "wow" you I think we've managed to pull in alot of kids who had big schools interested and had they waited a few months may have gotten more big offers. The fact of the matter is getting early commits means that the coaches are getting many of their primary targets.

Did Sam Richardson (QB) offer list wow you when he committed to us? I bet it would if you saw it on signing day. It is still early and I guarentee you that these kids will be getting some calls from some good BCS programs to decommit.

This class is shaping up nice so far and a couple good wins this fall could go a long ways towards putting it over the top. We need to see recruiting classes in the 40s to make a jump in the Big 12 and this class is well on its way. Three star guys with a few four stars sprinkled in is exactly what schools like iowa,Cincy, Utah, Boise, TCU, OSU and Mizzou did to build their programs.

One thing that I appreciate with this staff is that out of the ** guys that have been recruited, many of them are going to be contributors and not just space fillers.

Guys like Knott, obviously, David Irving, Jevohn Miller, Tom Farniok, Jeremy Reeves, etc.

We have 10 verbals. Bevins has no stars right now, so that will drop our average until he gets his 2 stars.

    2.6 avg.

I think you completely missed the tone of my response. I wasn't being critical of our staff at all, I like the guys they've brought in, but the truth of the matter is that no one we've signed (aside from perhaps Patrick Harris) has an offer sheet that will wow you as of right now.

Didn't miss your point and agree. Just saying programs are built on three star classes like the one that Rhoads is getting this year.

Yep you're right. I wish that you could see rivals rankings all the way to 120 instead of just to 50 because that is where they show the points system. The point system is vastly superior to the avg star system since in the avg star ranking adding a 2 star has a negative impact on the ranking instead of just a less positive impact than a 3 star would.

I would guess that right now we are somewhere in between 50 and 60 just based on the classes that the teams between 45 and 50 have so far.

We'll be in the mid 50's when our last two get counted. The good thing is between ISU and 50 is teams with more commits, so we should be able to pass them if we up our numbers with quality recruits.

2010 we finished 59th. 2011 we finished 51st. Hopefully we can break into the top 45.

Just out of curiosity, how do you know where we finished if Rivals only shows the top 50??

There has been some rumblings too about Grant Rohach getting a 4th star due to his performance in the Elite 11 competition. According to coaches there, he was the 2nd best performer behind the #1 overall QB (Jameis Winston). If that happened, that of course would bump the star rating average higher.

They show the total points in the conference standings. Take ISU's total and the number 50 total and count how many teams have less than the 50 team, but more than ISU. 2010 there were 8 teams. 2011 there were no teams.

I'm curious as to where you are hearing this from? I think Rohach will be moved to a 5.7 but I'm not sure as to if he'll be bumped all the way to a 4star. Would love for this to be true but I'm a little skeptical.

Rivals guys who provided commentary on the event.
