Deace On Jon Miller Show Now

Now Deace is talking about ISU on Miller's show. Seems to think there's a lot of tension behind the scenes - players vs. coaches. Interesting.

Yeah that is JUST what we need. Players vs coaches and the media talking about dissention in the ranks. I guess this will really show how Chiz wants to run the team. He better end this right away.

Re: Deace On Jon Miller Show Now

I'm at work and not by a radio so I'm not listening but I can verify there is some back and forth going on BUT it's only what you'd expect. I've heard it from players and the staff, it's not a secret and it's not "infighting" or turmoil per say.

I posted in another thread sometime in the past 24hours that it's much like Jiri vs GMac last season. You have a new coaching staff that has come in to replace who these guys were recruited by and really liked. They've been asked to change what they know about how the game is played and not all of the players have given in just yet. Some players have "seen the light" so-to-speak but many haven't. It's really just a matter of time. The staff obviously isn't going to give in so it's just a matter of when each player decides for themselves that they need to commit to the new system to make the team as a whole much better. Even with our lack of talent, we can and will play much better once we get all the players to buy into the coaching staff and style of play.

Deace claiming Gene has not earned the player's respect, the players are not going to war for him. He needs to change it up this week in order to rally the troops.

Of course there is some tension behind the scenes! Chizik isn't all puppy dogs and cupcakes. He isn't telling them they are great team and making excuses. He has been giving them a good pop in the mouth all spring and they aren't used to practicing hard.

Now THAT could explain what we have seen so far. It is like only a few of them are playing inspired. Maybe all these guys came to play for Mac and not for ISU.

I like my way of describing it more:) I don't think it's fair to say he hasn't earned their respect but I think there's obviously different styles of play that are being worked out. Mac was a fairly mellow coach and Chizik is very emotional and agressive and it's taking everybody time to adjust. I think that's to be expected when such a different style of coaching comes in.

That would explain a lot, but is that what's really happening? Has anyone else seen or heard this?

You are going to have this type of situation any time a team is struggling, especially if they have worked harder than they ever have before and are not getting the results they expected... I have personally been there, it's extremely frustrating. I hope this diffuses quickly, the last thing we need is a blowhard like Deace making it a bigger deal than it is... Untill you have been in a locker room like that then you can't have any idea whats going on.

It is expected, some dissension. We've yet to get a W, so in the player's eyes, they have no fruits from their increased labors this past off-season.

I agree. It's like any situation in life. For instance, when you work for someone you like and respect, then that person is let go and someone from the outside is brought in to lead the team, it's going to take time to warm up to that person - if you ever do at all. I hate to say it, but I can see a lot of our senior "leaders" who liked Mac and didn't want him to go having a tough time buying into Gene and his staff.

That's a great way of paraphrasing what I've heard take place in the locker room. Until we get a win, many aren't going to understand the reason for all their extra work.

I heard from a friend on the team that at one practice Chizik pretty much told Blythe he could gather up all of his records and take them the **** out of Ames. Take that for what you will.

I wondered about that but didn't want to make a post about it and sound like a ******. I wondered if some of the seniors were ****** at Chizik for taking Mac's job (like he had anything to do with Mac getting the boot) and not playing as hard as they could. Doesn't make much sense to me with guys like Meyer and Blythe playing for a meal ticket next year.

Re: Deace On Jon Miller Show Now

Good, because Blythe isn't playing like a senior either. Few guys are playing up to their potential.

I seem to recall a guy in Manhatten upsetting the existing players and many fans last year and even this off-season. All he did was exceed expectations in his first year and nearly defeat a very good team on the road in Week 1.

It ain't always going to be roses and daisies, folks. Sometimes you gotta go backwards in order to move forward. And sometimes along the way, people get upset.

None of that will matter though, as long as the wins come eventually.
