    Cyclones ready for Italy, expectations

    Fanatics,

Here's an update on the Cyclones upcoming trip to Italy. Iowa State is not shying away from expectations and its hopeful this trip is the start of a great season.

There are also tidbits about Royce White at the point, Chris Allen and no cell phones.

Nice work Ian, enjoyed reading about Chris Allen, learned something about him that we didn't all know before.

Re: Cyclones ready for Italy, expectations

I cannot contain my excitement about this MBB season. I can't wait to see how the Royce White PG Experience (sounds like a 70s band) works out.

I wish there was a webcast of the Italy games. I'm curious as to how good the competition will be. I also wish we were playing a certain German team with a Herr Staiger on it.

You have down the last time we made the NCAAs was 2004. I thought we went to the NIT final 4 that year and it was 2005 as the last time we made the NCAAs.

Like seeing our center, power forward playing point guard. That ought to mess with people's minds.

Scott's probably the one player who always sounded very ticked off after all of those losses.

    Interesting comment 2020,

It makes me wonder, other than potential "mismatches" of course, what advantages are there to an offense for this to take place?

Also, after breaking down the tape of the first game where White is featured occasionally as the point, what would you as a defense do to combat it?

I am certain that Royce will be the point only after a made bucket, not on the break, so teams will be able to "match up" as best they can.

    Thoughts .... comments?

    Go Cyclones

    Love this quote from Hoiberg:

“There is a lot of excitement and there should be and we want expectations,” Hoiberg said. “I don’t want to go into a season again saying well we don’t expect much out of this group. I want our fans to expect us to compete for Big 12 championships every year.”

This is what is so exciting. We have athleticism, depth and versatility. We can play big, small or anything in between. We have posts that can play outside and a wings that can play inside or out.

We will have a minimum of 2 great outside shooters on the court at the same time, and the ability to have 3 or 4.

Not to feed the hype machine anymore, but it seems like there is a definite "buzz" around ISU basketball right now. It will be fun to watch.

Sag off him and let him have any outside shot he wants. If an ISU possession ends with White shooting a 15 ft+ jumper instead of Allen, Babb or Scotty I would be happy as a coach. I don't think White playing point really would be that hard of a match up to defend, I think the offense running through White at the high post will be very hard to stop.
