Vacation - Beachfront or private acreage

So my wife, dog and I are going to Door county, WI. Found two cabins we like, but having trouble deciding. Thoughts:

Cabin 1: Lake Michigan private sandy beachfront, available 4 days

Cabin 2: Secluded on 25 private gated forested acres, available for a full week for same price as 4 days of cabin 1.

Basic amenities are the same, except Cabin 2 has air conditioning(not usually an issue, but has been a hot summer in WI this year).

We are not boaters or fishers per se, so we won't be using Cabin 1's boat dock. Cabin 2 is more centrally located, so better for sight seeing.

Dilemma is, my favorite thing to do is be next to water on vacation for relaxation, but would a few extra days make giving up the lakefront option worth it?

Tough call, staying on a lake is fun especially if you have a boat. But if you dont have access to that might as well do option two considering you get 3 more days. On the other hand waking up to the lake is pretty sweet. My parents have a condo at Boji and it is nice being right on the lake. Ya I know this was little to no help.

Isn't that about par for the course for you? On a slightly related note, are we cancelling the mafia game or what?!

Im just glad I have Homan as my bodyguard, Eustachy joked. If I ever make it real big and get to drive a limo everyday, hell be driving it. I thought he came off the bench like somebody was stealing his cow or something.

You've always got such a knack for de-escalating the situation

personally, when i rent houses, i dont care about being next to water, but if I am not, i require a pool, shared community pool or otherwise.. just my 2 cents, since cabin 2 has no pool or lake, then it would be out to me.. if you dont have a pool, you just start sitting around the house, unless you have alot of hiking and things planned..

Okay I don't really mean to come across as an ******* but why Door County when there are so many better places in Northern Wisconsin/Minnesota and the UP?

We've stayed in cabins on the north shore of Superior and intend to do more of the same. There's just something about the sound of the water that's sooo relaxing. Lake Michigan is a little different as there will probably more activity on that body of water, but I still vote for on the lake. Maybe you can find a place to stay on the way up or back to explore/sight see inland. Have a great trip!

I would go for the Lake.

Side note: My wife, stepdaughter and mother inlaw are going up there next week to stay at a house my father inlaw and brothers own.

Re: Vacation - Beachfront or private acreage

We've kind of done both this summer - in Duck, NC with my folks on the beach, and I'm currently in an acreage/cabin in Egg Harbor WI with the in-laws. I think everyone had a little more fun at the house on the beach, just because we had our own "spot" on the public beach in front of the house, whereas off the beach we have to fight for a parking spot/beach spot. We've got three little kids (5, 4, 2) for whom the beach is the major attraction at both locations though. I will say that in Door County you are never far from the water on one side or the other, and every small town has a nice marina/waterfront area.

This week, Fish Creek and Ephraim have been really packed with Sister Bay and Egg Harbor busy but not as packed with people. Sister Bay is as far north along the shore as we've gone. There were two guys at the market in Egg Harbor giving away 6-pack bottles of their new beer called Boatilla. It's very good, and they said they were ISU grads when they saw my wife's shirt. I stayed with the girls at the cabin so I didn't meet them personally.

You can spend a lot of time and money picking out the perfect floral bouquet for your date ... but you're probably better off checking if you have bad breath and taking the porn out of the glove compartment.

The moral: you gain more by not being stupid, than you do by being smart. Smart gets neutralized by other smart people. Stupid does not.

There is a difference between a vacation with my friends and one with my wife.

Besides, we are 5 hours from there, and a lot of our friends rave about it, so we want to see it.

    I appreciate everyone's thoughts.
