    Design Computer Loan Program?

    Anyone do this?

What did you like about it?
What didn't you like about it?
Do you have a drawing tablet as well? If so, what brand?
Did you use the Mac setup or Windows?

Thanks for those who know what I'm talking about.

    Re: Design Computer Loan Program?

I know exactly what you are talking about, but I didn't participate. Personally, I'm a windows guy, but in design there are a number of macs(even a mac lab).

What I had planned to do was get a low spec laptop for the core design program(you don't need a computer for the first year for design). Then, if I were to get accepted, I was going to buy a high end laptop. I didn't end up applying, but that is another story entirely.

If I recall, the computer they provide for loan is really nice whether its a macbook pro or PC. If you can make a $1000 purchase right now, I'd just forgo doing the loan program though. By the time the laptop is completely yours, you'll probably end up replacing it.

I had always wanted a tablet, since computer graphics is a whole lot more flexible than pen and paper. Perhaps consider getting a tablet PC? Generally more expensive, but it has a keyboard and you can use the screen as a drawing pad.

    Re: Design Computer Loan Program?

I have a computer through the college of design laptop program. It is a MacBook Pro and I have my platforms spit between Mac and Windows so I can run programs like AutoCadd on Windows but prefer the Mac side, it's what I was raised on. It is a good program because they provide you with all the programs needed for your major. The only downside is they remove most of them once you have graduated, other than that I would definitely recommend it.

    Re: Design Computer Loan Program?

don't do it. my gf signed up her freshman year. By the end, her computer was total ****. Computers/electronics have a designed shelf life of about 2 years before they become pretty much obsolete, especially for machine that will need to run some fairly high powered design software. Plus, you never know if you will stick with a design major.

    Just my 2 cents.
