I know most people were not happy that we let the clock run out before half rather than calling a timeout to force the punt. However, I thought it was a good call by Chizik, even though we were behind. In most games I would agree that we should be more aggressive in that situation, but consider the situation Saturday.
UNI had good field position and we would likley have received the punt deep in our own end of the fiedl. We had already turned one ball over on a punt the first half and had back up returner on field. Our punt return yards for the year are -5, so it isn't likely we would have long return to give us field position. Meyer hasn't shown ability to move team down field quickly with his arm. Even if we did get down field you have a field goal kicker who is 0-3.
Odds of successfully getting points in less than 30 seconds, small. Risk of turnover on punt or off pick by Meyer, higher than odds of points.
Like I said, almost always I think the right call is a timeout and try to get some points. Saturday I thought we were better off getting to the locker room to regroup.

I hated the call...if we were a good enough team to go out line up and dominate we wouldn't have to take risks...buuuuuuuuuuuut it turns out I think we will be in the position all year to HAVE to take risks...what's that tall receiver's name that plays for the cyclones?? I'd take my chances with throwing the long ball to him.
If we did have a timeout...I would have liked for us to at least make them punt. Even if we rush 11 with no one back to return. The UNI punter had a couple of flat out shanks (one went like 18 yards). Make him kick a good one.
