    New TV Time.....Suggestions?

Time to get a new TV. I really don't think I want any thing larger than 42 inch.....but definitely want HD. Watch mostly movies and sports. Don't want to spend a fortune. Any suggestions on best brand names as far as quality and price?

I've heard Vizio is a good brand. Anyone have one?

I'm a fan of Toshiba. I've owned 4 HDTV sets of theirs and have been satisfied with every one. They aren't too terribly priced, and the quality is very good.

Samsung and LG are going to be your two best bets for a really good quality tv, but will be a bit more pricey. From what I've experienced with Vizio's they are really hit or miss, either they are great or they have constant issues. I bought a Sceptre when Menards ran a sale on them a couple of weeks ago for a 32" for $170. By far not the worlds best tv but it gets the job done and the price was right.

I have a Vizio from Costco that I purchased in January and have only had one small issue with it. Every once in awhile it will randomly shut off and have to "reboot," if you will. It has only done it a handful of times and that is the only issue I have had. Picture quality is great for the price and a 2 year warranty for less than a grand. I got a 47" and its plenty big with wireless built into it.

My roommate and I both own an LG and have no complaints. Vizio is a little bit cheaper and sometimes you get what you pay for when getting a cheaper TV but for the most part I've heard good things. If it's going to be your main TV I'd go LG, if it's going to be a bedroom or second family/living room TV, I'd go Vizio

Doesn't Vizio get their parts from LG? Or some other top of the line company?

I'm a big fan of Samsung. They make solid products and have good customer service. They fixed my TV earler this year 3 years outside of warranty to replace defective parts - won my loyalty.

We bought a 46" Insignia from Best Buy, and it's getting the job done pretty well. If we had DTV, it would be amazing.

I was a big Samsung fan. Sony lost me when my 60in model developed a blue blob which is a common design flaw in those older models. That was a big chunk of change burned. Since then I've thought Samsung was the best and bought a good one for my main set. It is great. Since then I've bought a couple of lower cost LGs for my condo in Ames and really like them. The menu interface is superior to the Samsung and the picture quality good enough that I haven't observed any degradation compared to my top of the line Samsung. My first condo set was a Philips, but I returned that one and got the LG. The Philips had to rescan when you switch from cable to over-the-air channels. That was unacceptable to me.

    Samsung then Sony\LG, imho.

I'll also recommend Amazon as a place to get the tv. Usually much, much cheaper than you'll get locally, and itll be delivered right to your door. Bought two tvs with them (a sony a few years back and a samsung this year) and have had good experiences.

I just bought a 55" Samsung 3D tv and it's amazing. I would highly suggest buying a Samsung, Sony or LG. I had a 42" Westinghouse LCD that managed to get burn-in. The best part was that it was caused by the input indicator. After that happend, I decided that I'd rather spend more up front and have a better product. I only had the Westinghouse for 3 years.

    Re: New TV Time.....Suggestions?

I have a 47" Vizio and love it. Friend of mine has the same TV and neither of us have had any problems. He went through two Phillips TV's because of issues before getting the Vizio.

If you want a warranty, Sam's Club has about the best warranties you can get. Bring it in for any reason and you bring home another off the shelf of the same one, or you can have the full credit of the purchase price and buy something different. My friend never lost a penny bringing in the Phillips TV's that gave him issues.

I went to college thinking I wanted a career; turns out I just wanted paychecks.

Sony is the best, picture and sound quality, but also the most expensive. I would go Samsung or LG.
