    Beltran Deal

Beltran traded to SF for a pitching prospect Zachary Wheeler #6 pick in 2009 draft. Is it just me or are the mets getting the short end here?

Not long term. They never should have paid Beltran that much money based on his playoff performance with the Astros. Since than he has been solid but often injured and nowhere near deserving of the cash that they have paid him. Now they have a top prospect and more money to go spend on more guys. Just my thoughts.

    Re: Beltran Deal

Beltran is a free agent at the end of the year. I think the Mets actually did pretty well getting an impact prospect back for a player who is nothing more than a 2 month rental. When the Royals traded Beltran to the Astros back in 2004 in a similar scenario they got Mark Teahen, John Buck, and Mike Wood in return. The Mets made out like bandits compared to that haul.

Exactly. Wheeler is most likely better than any player they would get in the supplemental draft if they just kept Beltran till the end of the season.

In other news, SF just got a lot tougher...if you can even say that about the defending WS champs.

Should be another great Phillies-Gians NLCS.

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.
Make this one for the ages!

    Re: Beltran Deal

    money off the books.

The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh... people will come Ray. People will most definitely come.
