Honestly, I wonder if the Pac-12 schools have just let him go do whatever he wants lately...

Re: Pac-12 not interested in Texas

It's not so much that the Pac-12 isn't interested in Texas, but that it can't happen with the Longhorn network.

This is confirms what we've been saying all along. It's Big 12 or independent for Texas in the future.

But this is also what makes Larry Scott's comments about expansion so baffling to me. If he says he is going to continue to expand, who else can he get that will bring in more money?

    Texas A&M will never go.
Oklahoma will not go if Texas and Texas A&m will not go. They'd rather go to the SEC instead.
Texas Tech will not be invited if none of the Big 3 don't come along with.
Oklahoma State will not be invited if Oklahoma isn't going.

That leaves the Kansas schools, Missouri, and ISU.

    ISU will never be invited.
I can't imagine KSU ever being invited with their academics.

The Pac 12 will not take any of the schools in the Mountain West as far as I can tell because they either aren't academically acceptable or they can't bring in the money.

cyman-you've got it. There just aren't real options for the Pac-12. Scott had his shot last year and didn't get it done.

Good for him on a new TV deal. That will balance out having Colorado in the conference.

Re: Pac-12 not interested in Texas

I didn't buy any of this recent talk that the Texas-Pac 12 talks could spark up again. Texas has it made in the Big 12 and basically runs the league. If A&M and OU don't like it and bolt, Texas will just go independent.

Texas is arguably the biggest national brand in college athletics (Notre Dame and a few others might argue that). The Pac-12 and every other conference in America will always be interested in Texas.

If Texas calls the Pac 12 and says we want in, but our network comes with, there is no doubt in my mind the Pac 12 would make it work.

The Pac-12 may not be interested, but the Pac-16 is licking their lips.

Yeah if Scott can't get some of the Big 12 south schools, he has zero options. BYU is the only school west of Big 12 country that would bring something to the table but if that marriage hasn't happened by now, it never will. Boise State has football prestige and would be a perfect fit in the Pac 12 North geographically but their pathetic academic standards will never fly with the conference presidents.

Basically if Scott can't get the Big 12 south minus A&M and Baylor, then he's talking out his *** about expansion.

Re: Pac-12 not interested in Texas

Does anybody else think that if the Pac 12 never expands beyond 12 that this really kills the idea of superconferences?

You can't have 4 conferences of 16 unless all conferences are at 16.

The only possible way you'd get superconferences now would be if the Big 12-2 fired first and took half of the Pac 12 schools to get up to 16.

    That'd obviously never happen.

The only other possibility is if the Pac 12 somehow stole some teams from the Big 10/SEC/ACC/Big East, but I can't imagine that ever happening.

Am I way off on this???

Yeah, if he invites 4 of those schools then superconferences for sure would never happen because then you'd have 11 schools left out of the part instead of 7...

If you had 11 schools left out that'd be way too much of a stink because there would be at least 2-3 big names left out.

Maybe a reporter from Minneapolis could tweet something about UNC and Duke going to the Pac-12?

    Larry Scott -

"It's not something we are looking at now," he told the paper. "We did our deal. We're very happy with it. We're not thinking or looking at expanding at the moment, but we are trying to create the strongest conference possible. I do feel there will be further expansion, and I want to be an attractive place to come."

Certainly looks to me like they have no interest (I'm sure at their disappointment)... given the current arrangement. Obviously, every conference in the country would want them. You can't have two competing tv deals in the same conference.
