    Favorite Iowa State LB

ISU has had a number for great LB's in recent years (I think I went back about 7-8 years.) just thought I'd toss it up - Who is your favorite in recent memory? Feel free to add another if theres someone you liked who I didn't name. Or if any of you old timers got a LB you enjoyed watching at ISU with a blast from that past, let's hear it.

You should replace Josh Raven with Matt Word.

Voted for AJ Klein. The guy just makes plays.

    Re: Favorite Iowa State LB

Y'all need to brush up on your Cyclone history.

Matt Blair was the greatest ever at the position. Keith Schroeder was close behind.

    Mike Shane also.

Jake, Dobbins, Matt Word. Too young to see Matt Blair

    Re: Favorite Iowa State LB

You have forgotten the best LB in Iowa State History (Matt Blair)!

Blair was one of the best at his position between 1971 and 1985, first at Iowa State, then as a member of the Minnesota Vikings. Sun Bowl most valuable player. All-American. Six-time Pro Bowl selection. Super Bowl participant.

    Re: Favorite Iowa State LB

For reference I was just going off the top of my head and I think I only went back 7-8 years. I don't claim to know all the ISU greats from further back, that's exactly why I specifically asked. I'm 26 and been an ISU season ticket holder since 2004. I was born in IC and lived in eastern iowa my whole life. grew up a hawkeye until about middle school so I can't say I'm a historical know-it-all Iowa State, but I'm willing to learn.

I voted for Dobbins. I'll never forget the hit he laid on Drew Tate. Too young to remember those older ones. Dennis Gibson also was a good one with a pretty nice NFL career.

    Re: Favorite Iowa State LB

Matt Blair for sure, but I can be a homer and add Jake to my list? All he did was pick off 2 INT's in his first start at linebacker against N. Illinois. Also, my favorite play by a ISU linebacker has to be when Hicks picked off Drew Tate and Dobbins knocked that loud mouth out of the game. Anyone have video of that beautiful play so I can reminince the greatness that it was?

You need to adjust your standards for "great". I think Wally and CPR are working on that. Matt Blair, and maybe Jake--considering he's only played his soph season.

Tim Dobbins was a hard hitting machine! The anchor of a great Defense!

Tate was knocked out when he tried to tackle Paris, who had just made the INT.

That was Paris that knocked Tate out.

Dobbins was a beast, if he made any contact with the RB that guy wasn't going anywhere but backwards.

Dennis Gibson played in the NFL for many years, as did Chris Washington. Matt Blair is the greatest, but those two have to be mentioned as well.
