Just spoke to a Cotton Bowl rep

Just had lunch with a Cotton Bowl rep. He told me that in 2005, Iowa State was one of the teams that really intrigued them. Of course, we all know how 2005 turned out. He said that through their research, Iowa State has "a ton of alums" in that area and would be a good get. Obviously, Iowa State needs to grow as a program to ever end up in that situation.

That's great news to hear. Although, I think if we ever had a season good enough to make the cotton bowl, you wouldn't really have to worry about how many alumni we had down there. A lot of ISU fans would travel to that game.

2005 was one of the most disappointing seasons I can recall, in terms of expectation vs. outcome. That was when I lost faith once and for all in Coach Mac and his staff.

I dont recall being to upset with my expectations going into that season, I would say that team exceeded expectations. However, I get upset after you think of what could of been.

That Baylor loss at home was inexcusable and I'm upset with the overtime loses that year. I still have nightmares of Nick Leaders dropping that INT in OT against Nebraska, and I was ready to kill myself with vodka after that Kansas game

I remember that team being hyped as the best ISU has ever had. I would say that definitely flopped.

IIRC, we lost to Iona that night too in basketball. Pretty sure I took a lot of whiskey to the face that night.

I honestly dont have that great of a memory, so I could be wrong, but I dont recall there being a whole lot of hype for ISU that season. I think a bowl game was predicted, but we were definitely dogged in games @Mizzou @Nebraska, @aTm, and at home against Iowa. I certainly dont think it held a candle to the 2002 hype.

That being said, I still do think that was Dan McCarney's greatest team, I just dont think to many people saw it coming before the season...

If we get to the Cotton Bowl in JerryWorld now I would absolutely drive the 1500+ miles round trip to be there.

Are you listening Cotton Bowl officials??...

The preseason expectations were relatively high by ISU standards. they really went through the roof with the dismantling of highly ranked Iowa though.
Not having a competent backup running back is inexcusable and thankfully CPR doesn't seem like he will make that mistake in the future.

Our stable at RB is definitely packed. Shontrelle, Woody, James White, Hollis, not to mention Nealy and Standard coming in.

Thank goodness. It seems like DMac was constantly having issues with quality depth. We'd have decent starters with in state walk-ons (and not the good kind) as their backups. This led to bringing in more JuCos who "had to" start and taking chances with other recruits.
