    Recruits that got away

Cool article on ESPN with a number of coaches talking about the recruits that got away and their best find as a hidden gem. McCaffrey is in there and there's an Adam Koch reference as well.

College coaches tell their story of recruiting woe and triumph - ESPN

    Roy gives dramaqueen answers.

Of course, to do this with ISU the list probably starts with Glen Rice for players that got away.

Cool article. Glen Rice would probably headline that list for us along with HB. I'm not so sure we ever had a legitimate shot at HB but the simple fact he grew up in Ames would lead me to describe him as "one who got away".

As for hidden gems, the obvious answer would be Hornacek as he was a walk on. As for more recently, Jared Homan wasn't very highly recruited at all and had a great career.

Thank goodness Barnes got away. If he had come to ISU, McDoormat would likely still be our coach.

    Re: Recruits that got away

I would love to hear Johnny Orr's stories about recruiting, especially about the good ones who got away. I think we pretty much know about the hidden gems who played for him; he was a master miner for diamonds-in-the-rough.

    P.J. Farmer rocks!
