South Tama QB Horbach to Walk On

Former South Tama quarterback Brandon Horbach has passed up a chance to play in the Iowa Conference for the opportunity to walk on at Iowa State.
Just one week after letting Wartburg College know he was on his way to Waverly this season, Horbach discovered the Cyclones still had a preferred walk-on spot available for him.
"I just told Wartburg I had a change of heart," said Horbach, a two-year starting quarterback at South Tama. "It's a lifelong dream come true."
Horbach earned first-team all-Class 3A District 6 honors and graduated as his class valedictorian. He told the Marshalltown Times-Republican that the opportunity to study civil engineering at Iowa State and possibly play Big 12 football was too good to ignore.

Anybody know anything about Brandon? Size, speed, etc? It seems we've got some good QBs in the system, but since a high school QB is often a very good athlete, he might be able to switch positions and see the field someday.

Re: South Tama QB Horbach to Walk On

Was my partner in qb camp. Really quick release and always throws a tight spiral. I don't think his Team was very good in high school, but when he was surrounded with better talent at camp he looked real good. I was also in the same group with luke knott and to me horbach looked like the better qb. Not terribly fast but very accurate and should bed one of the better walk on qb's we've had.

If his leg is good we could try him at kicker and let him kick field goals

Re: South Tama QB Horbach to Walk On

one thing about iowa state is that he will pay a much lower tuition. many of these small church schools are hurting on their budgets and are not offering scholarships. check
out simpson's ,wartburg's, and luther's cost of attending their schools. it is not cheap.
one of my friends had an alumni from luther call him about donating to luther for a swimming pool when the college had a decent pool already....i guess they r building a beautiful new pool there(olympic size). the guy that was calling him said luther was costing 40,000 dollars per semester now.is that true...no wonder this kid wants to walk on at iowa state...
