    Where to rent an aerator?

    Hi,

Has anyone in the Ankeny area found a place to rent a lawn Aerator? Does anyone know the cost it would be? Also, does anyone know if it has to be done before the first frost? Thanks in advance!

Get some of your neighbors to go in on it with you.

It doesn't need to be done before the first frost, but you don't want the ground to be frozen either or it won't pull decent plugs. I usually aerate and overseed in September. That gives the grass seed time to germinate and get established before the winter.

Also like said above, try to get a neighbor to go in with you. Last year I think it would have been cheaper for me to hire someone to do it.

Now there are also those that say aerating is a waste of time and money.

They say country music speaks to the heart. Unfortunately, it has to go through your ears to get there.

There is also a place called Ankeny Rental by DMACC and they rent that type of equipment. I don't know the cost.

Wait till September to do it. Definitely wouldn't do it now as dry as the ground is. It would be like pulling plugs out of your driveway.

Just buy some of those garden long spikes and walk the yard for exercise after a rainstorm.

I second Ankeny Hardware. Its on Ankeny Blvd and about 5th street. The prices aren't bad either.

That is what we did last year, it was about $70 for 4 hrs. We were able to get 5 lawns done in that time.

I often use power rental provider if I need special tools I do not want to buy because I only need it once. I am not sure if you can rent an aerator there but just check their website in order to be sure if they have such tools. Nevertheless they have a lot of different power tools.

Home Depot. I have always had good luck with their rental items.
