    Sleep texting?

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Some teens are so connected to their phones that they sometimes text in their sleep, it's a new phenomena called sleep texting, reported KMBC-TV. "It's real. Sometimes you'll be sleeping and you'll dream something and text anybody just random text messages," said James Fox, 15."I've texted my cousin, Gretchen, quite a few times when I was sleeping, like two pages of random numbers and letters and stuff," said Jadin Fox, 12.Sleep texting is so popular that there is a Facebook page devoted to sleep texting. But sleep specialists warn that the phenomena could be a teenager's enemy."Twenty percent are awakened in the middle of the night by getting a text, email or phone call. Not good," said Dr. Kevin Smith, a pediatric sleep psychologist.Smith said there could be social consequences, too."Definitely you could say the wrong thing and once you send a text, you can't take it back," Smith said.Doctors said the bottom line is that sleep texting is not healthy, if for no other reason than sleep is being disrupted.

Step 1: Put your cell phone in a drawer before going to bed.

    Problem solved!

After any of the Jay and Silent Bob movies, I would've never guessed Kevin Smith had a doctorate :jimlad

That's easier said than done. If something would happen and my parents are trying to get in touch with me, my phone being off hinders that opportunity. I'm fine with being woken up at 3am if there's an emergency.

If there was an emergency don't you think someone would just go to your place?

To me this sounds a lot like butt dialing, so I don't think we will every be able to solve this problem.

Kind of difficult when my parents are 100 miles away and we don't have a land line phone in our apartment. Unfortunately I've gotten the "We don't know how much longer she has" call and made the trek home at 2:45am. Could I live with missing the call until I get up at 7am? Yes. Would I prefer it? No.

And a quick fix to this? Don't get your kid a phone with texting at 12.

That sucks, I guess I do live closer to my parents. But I think if it was really important my parents would be able to get a hold of me (even maybe through the police).

Why go through all that effort, when the most direct way to get ahold of you, would be to call you?

    Re: Sleep texting?

If kids are texting in their sleep it makes you wonder what else they could do in their sleep like homework.

Why stop there just have them clean their room, wax your car, and make breakfast in the morning.
