    Royce at the 3

JonRothstein just tweeted that he got off the phone interviewing Coach Fred. Fred said: Royce might play the 3.

    Interdasting...

What does our lineup look like w/ Royce at the 3? That would likely take one of our sharpshoooters off the floor, right?... Discuss.

I really don't think traditional positions will apply much this year, and probably in the future with Hoiberg.

Does that keep Ejim out of position for another season?

    Allen
    Scotty
    White
    Ejim (?)
    Booker

    Re: Royce at the 3

Interesting. I think that might be where he would play in the NBA. We have a much stronger set of guards than we do big men though. I think we get more talent onto the floor with Royce at the 4 or even 5.

Be sure to check out Rothstein's twitter page. He's got about 10 quotes from Hoiberg on players, Italy, transfers, etc. Good stuff.

    Re: Royce at the 3

I think Fred is on a campaign of misinformation to keep the rest of the league on their toes.

The main purpose I see for putting White at the 3 is to take advantage of his ball handling and passing skills. He is a nightmare matchup for other 3's. He is too strong for other 3's to defend in the post and moves well enough to drive and dish.

    It'd be situational, I'm sure.

If I had to guess we'd still trot 3 guards out there and would run a lot of high post and pinch post action of Royce where he could look to distribute.

    Re: Royce at the 3

If we are running up and down, having multiple athletic wing-type player on the floor instead of a traditional power forward makes sense. Play to your strengths!

the 1,2,3,4,5 obsession never dies. its like a basketball player is only supposed to do one thing, and stay on one part of the court. and it assumes that all of our opponents have all the specific guys in specific spots.

i'm 100% confident we'll play five guys that dribble, pass, shoot, defend, and rebound.

Try just googling "@JonRothstein" his page should come up, and I think you should be able to view without an account. I'm on my smart phone, which isn't apparently so smart, as I don't know how to copy + paste mobile site links. It could just be me that's not so smart...

    Re: Royce at the 3

If Royce can hit the 15 - 20 "J", with his ball handling ability, he would be a monster to deal with on the wing. If you try to double team him, he will pass out of it. If you leave him one on one, he can take it down low and post him up or drive around him from the wing. I could see this and have Ejim in the post. The opponents big man that guards either one will have his hands full. From the CCl, it sounds like Booker may have similar ability to shoot from outside. Don't know about his ball handling.

Agreed. The difference between having Royce at 3 Ejim at 4 or Ejim at 3 Royce at 4 is nominal. Put four guys who can score, defend and rebound and I don't care what position they are technically playing.

Look at the front page, Hoiberg was talking about using royce at the 3 when we go big with Booker and Gibson.
