    Marine Boot Camp Coaching?

The team is at an all time low. Maybe the staff can now rebuild the players and team, much like the Marines do in boot camp, break them completely down and then build them up to what they want them to be.

We all know that Gene has the "Marine" mentality when it came to training. Maybe the players will buy into things now, that they have no other choice.

    Re: Marine Boot Camp Coaching?

You are correct, even if ISU goes 0-12 this season, you cannot get lower then losing to UNI (or any 1-AA school) at home. We will look back at last night and remember how bad things can be. I truly think when Chizik builds this program to respectability we will enjoy it all the more.

No matter what anyone says, ISU has not had any respectability since the 1970's. This is evident by the way the national media took to the news of Mac being let go. They all said that Mac did the best that ISU can hope for. Does that mean anyone respected this program, NO! Mac had the same 'winning' % as the previous coach. ISU has no way to go but up. I wish this change would have been made a couple of years ago when the Big 12 North was falling all over itself to not win the division. Unfortunately I think most of the other programs are on the right track now and ISU lost two chances it had handed to them on the silver platter and millions of $'s in TV, Bowl, Big 12 championship game and additional revenues.

We are all going to have to have lots of patience, this will not be easy since there is no respect for ISU. We need to earn it.

AMEN BROTHER! I don't think the team or the fanbase has been the same since. When DM played for a FG against Mizzou in '04 - it should have been curtains for him. Think Grady Little and Pedro Martinez against the Yankees in '03.

    Re: Marine Boot Camp Coaching?

I don't see how us losing to UNI is "as low as we can go".... I ahte to make the comparrison, but that'd be like Iowa saying losing to us is as low as they can go... Yeah we may be in the same division as Iowa, but UNI looks at the ISU UNI game a lot like we look at the Iowa game, and when that happens you can never just brush it off. The low part would be the fact that they wanted this game a lot more than we did, and so they took it. They also made JTS their home, by bringing a lot of loud fans. When you can clearly heard "Lets go Panthers" at the opposite corner of the stadium from them, thats a bit wrong

Sorry to get off topic on this thread, I'm just a bit tired of that mentalitly

    Re: Marine Boot Camp Coaching?

I thought they had bought into the marine mentality during the summer. This puzzles me. They may be prone to making stupid mistakes. The snappers, the kickers, the qb. Just make stupid mistakes like unable to fall on a ball.

Huge difference, UNI is 1-AA and ISU is in the Big 12, this is why it is the lowest of lows.

We are at a low, because without big improvements we are staring at an 0'fer season. We just lost to probably the two easiest teams on the schedule.

As opposed to losing to Kent State? Or barely scraping by with a W against Toledo and UNLV? Or giving Baylor their first Big XII road win? Losing to UNI is not worse than some of those... UNI played in the championship game for their leauge 2 years ago or something like that - they are not a bad team. And if there is a rivalry, all the rules go out the window

If I heard it right, Bren Bruns on the post game said UNI would finish at the bottom in the Big Xll. So, using that logic Iowa State is not a good team since they beat us at our place. This is no disrespect toward Chisik, it's more of a reflection on the state of recruiting under the previous leadership.

    Re: Marine Boot Camp Coaching?

I hope the players' psyche isn't as fragile as most of us fans, but I'm wondering. We knew the O-line has been bad and would be worse this year and the secondary has been allowing 3rd and whatever conversions for the last couple years, but man, all these dropped and fumbled kickoffs and punts seem like the sign of a team that lost it's way. These guys need all the loose balls to bounce our way for once.
