    Sam Richardson QB.

So my buddy said he got an update on his cell phone (i dont know where from) saying the Sam Richardson had a shot a qb this year. Is there any truth to this, is he on campus yet? I couldnt find anything recent in my quick search.

Theoretically, every QB on the roster has a shot. Wide open competition.

    Re: Sam Richardson QB.

He would have to be crazy good to start as a true freshman, especially with Tiller (third year in system), Barnett (second year in system) & Jantz (hyped juco) in front of him.

    Re: Sam Richardson QB.

I believe he is on campus yes. As far as the shot at QB? Who knows. I would say that he is a tremendous athlete and very well may be the best QB ISU has seen in quite some time, 2 or 3 years down the road. I just think the learning curve is too big for him to come in and beat out 3 other QB's that are battling for the top spot at the moment. Who knows though. Tremendous upside. With him and Rohach coming in next year, ISU should be pretty well off QB wise in the future.

    Re: Sam Richardson QB.

I can't see him starting this year as he lacks arm strength. He is very accurate but needs time to get stronger. Can't wait to see him in a year or 2.

First glance I read Richardson had shot a QB...I thought we had a Baylor bball situation on our hands...

That would be the best situation for our football program.

He has a shot, none of the current QB's were that impressive in the Spring.

If he's really this good, I would say best case scenario is Richardson redshirting and starting 4 years beginning in 2012.

Crazy good to beat out Jerome tiller? Yikes...

If he's fairly decent he'll probably start to be honest. The kid has a lot of potential I hear, but every kid that comes here gets that kind of hype. Please don't say he'll have to be crazy good to beat out the 8th best qb in our conference...

Ha, maybe I phrased that wrong. While I think Richardson is the qb of the future (after Barnett maybe), I think most football players benefit with a redshirt year; especially quarterbacks. The learning curve for a qb is a lot steeper than say, receiver or cornerback. For a quarterback to come in and start as a true freshman is pretty rare, they not only have to be a freak athlete, they also have to grasp the entire playbook in a short amount of time. I don't think Sam Richardson is ready this year.

That's pretty nice to say about Tiller. Tiller might only be the third best qb on our team. Not to mention qbs 1-3 on Oklahoma, Texas...
